Federica Dal Falco, architetto, si è laureata nel 1984 presso la Facoltà di Architettura di Sapienza Università di Roma con una Tesi in Composizione architettonica dal titolo “Progetto di un museo, un planetario e una stazione metereologica sulle pendici del Gianicolo” (relatore Prof. Costantino Dardi) con la votazione 110/110 e lode.
Nel 1993 ha conseguito il titolo di Dottore di Ricerca in Tecnologia dell’architettura (Dottorato di ricerca_IV° ciclo, Sapienza Università di Roma consociata con Università di Firenze, Università di Venezia, Università di Reggio Calabria) con una Tesi dal titolo: “Materiali innovativi nell’architettura del Razionalismo Italiano: le leghe d’alluminio e i prodotti vetrari. Tecnologie, manutenzione e restauro”. Tutor: Prof. Antonio Paris.
Il suo percorso formativo scientifico e accademico è proseguito con studi per una Borsa CNR (1994-1995), con la ricerca “Repertorio di materiali edilizi e soluzioni tecniche innovative nel decennio 1930-1940” svolta presso il Dipe (Dipartimento di Disegno Industriale e Produzione Edilizia), e partecipando al Progetto finalizzato Beni Culturali del CNR (1997-2001, Resp. sc. Prof. Luciano Cupelloni) con ricerche sul tema del Restauro dell’architettura del movimento moderno (Caso studio: le stazioni ferroviarie di Angiolo Mazzoni).
Nel 1999 ha assunto il ruolo di Ricercatore universitario a tempo indeterminato (SSD H09A) presso il Dipartimento ITACA (Innovazione Tecnologica nell’Architettura e Cultura dell’Ambiente) di Sapienza. Confermata in ruolo nel 2002, nel 2003 ha conseguito l’idoneità come professore di ruolo di II fascia (SSD ICAR/12) presso la I Facoltà di Architettura del Politecnico di Milano.
Chiamata come Professore associato (SSD ICAR/12) nel 2005, è stata confermata nel ruolo nel 2008 presso il Dipartimento ITACA, oggi PDTA (Pianificazione Design Tecnologia dell’Architettura). Ha conseguito nel 2012 il Passaggio dal SSD ICAR/12 “Tecnologia dell’architettura” al SSD ICAR/13 “Disegno Industriale” Settore concorsuale 08/C1.
Nel 2015, ha conseguito l’Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale a Professore Ordinario nel Settore concorsuale 08/C1 Design e Progettazione Tecnologica dell’Architettura, SSD Icar/13. È abilitata dal 08/01/2015 al 08/01/2026.
Nel 2021, ha conseguito l’Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale a Professore Ordinario nel Settore concorsuale 08/C1 Design e Progettazione Tecnologica dell’Architettura, SSD Icar/13 (ASN 2018/2020). È abilitata dal 03/06/2021 al 03/06/2032.
Nell’ambito delle ATTIVITÀ INERENTI INCARICHI GESTIONALI UNIVERSITARI, dai primi anni del Duemila, ha ricoperto e ricopre in modo costante e continuativo ruoli direttivi negli ambiti della didattica, della ricerca, delle attività di monitoraggio, dell’internazionalizzazione.
Tra gli incarichi di maggior rilievo, si segnalano le attività di direzione e coordinamento che hanno riguardato e riguardano la gestione delle attività didattiche inerenti i Corsi di Laurea di Design di primo e secondo livello, anche internazionali e di Master di primo livello, contribuendo in modo costante e continuativo alla crescita dell’area didattica del Design di Sapienza.
Dall’A.A. 2004/2005, ha ricoperto i seguenti incarichi:
- Coordinatore e Co-coordinatore di Corsi di Laurea specialistica in Disegno Industriale e comunicazione visiva (Sapienza Università di Roma, Facoltà di Architettura; Sapienza in consorzio con l’Università degli studi di Camerino);
- Dal 2010 al 2014 è stata Presidente dell’Area Didattica di Disegno Industriale di Sapienza (CdL in Disegno Industriale, CdlM in Product Design, CdLM in Design, Comunicazione Visiva e Multimediale Interfacoltà con Scienze Politiche, Sociologia e Comunicazione) e Presidente della Commissione Qualità;
- Proponente e responsabile per Sapienza del Corso di Laurea Magistrale internazionale DeTICA “Design, Territory, Identity and Cultural Assets / Design, Territori, Identità e Beni Culturali / Diseño, Territorio, Identidad y Bienes Culturales / Design, Território, Identidade e Bens Culturais, cui partecipano come partnership: Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa (Portogallo), Escuela Politécnica Superior Universidad de Málaga (Spagna). Il percorso di istituzione del Cds Magistrale è stato validato dall'ANVUR.
- Per quanto riguarda le attività gestionali inerenti Master di primo livello di Sapienza è stata proponente e Direttore del Master in Fashion Design (2012/2013, non attivato) ed è dal 2022 Direttore del Master in Exhibit Design “Cecilia Cecchini”.
- Nell’ambito delle attività di monitoraggio della didattica e della ricerca è stata Presidente ad interim del Comitato di monitoraggio della Facoltà di Architettura (dal 01/02/2017 al 30/11/2017) e membro dello stesso (dal 2015 al 2022).
In relazione alla partecipazione come MEMBRO DEL COLLEGIO DEI DOCENTI DI DOTTORATI DI RICERCA ACCREDITATI DAL MINISTERO, è stata ed è:
- Membro del Collegio dei docenti del Dottorato di Ricerca in Tecnologie dell’Architettura e Disegno industriale. Dipartimento ITACA. Prima Facoltà di Architettura “Ludovico Quaroni” Sapienza Università di Roma (2001/2004);
- Membro del Collegio dei docenti del Dottorato Disegno Industriale. Design, arti e nuove tecnologie XX° e XXI° ciclo. Dipartimento ITACA. Sapienza Università di Roma (2004-2006).
- Membro del Collegio dei docenti del Dottorato di ricerca in Progettazione Ambientale XXVIII ciclo. Dipartimento PDTA. Sapienza Università di Roma (2012/2013).
-Membro del Collegio dei docenti del Dottorato di ricerca in Pianificazione, Design, Tecnologia dell’Architettura XXIX ciclo. Dipartimento PDTA Sapienza Università di Roma (dal 1° novembre 2013 al 31 ottobre 2014).

L’impegno come MEMBRO IN ORGANI COLLEGIALI UNIVERSITARI DELLA FACOLTÀ (con ruoli elettivi) si è espletato nella partecipazione come
- membro della Giunta di Facoltà in qualità di Presidente dell’Area didattica Disegno Industriale (2010/2014) e di rappresentante di seconda fascia (2013/2015; 2022/in corso)
- come membro del Comitato di monitoraggio dell’attività didattica e scientifica (2015/2022).
La partecipazione come membro ad organi collegiali del Dipartimento PDTA, riguarda:
- la Giunta di Dipartimento PDTA in qualità di professore di seconda fascia (dal 30/11/2018; 2018/2021);
- la Giunta di Dipartimento PDTA in qualità di professore di seconda fascia (dal 24.02.2022; 2022/ in corso)
- l’attività svolta come membro dell’Unità di internazionalizzazione e attualmente come Coordinatore (CdD del 02/03/2018);
- come membro del Gruppo di lavoro Elaborazione e procedure di riesame Piano strategico triennale Ricerca e Terza Missione Dipartimento PDTA (CdD 29.5.2018) e nel 2023 come Responsabile del Gruppo di lavoro Elaborazione e procedure di riesame Piano strategico triennale per l’internazionalizzazione (Dipartimento PDTA).
- Inoltre sono da considerare le attività svolte come membro del Comitato di armonizzazione del Dipartimento PDTA e come delegato del Dipartimento PDTA per la Commissione Biblioteca Centrale della Facoltà di Architettura (2019).

In relazione alle RESPONSABILITÀ SCIENTIFICHE INTERNAZIONALI DI FACOLTÀ, DIPARTIMENTO, O ATTRIBUITE DA ENTI DI PRESTIGIO ESTERI, si segnalano le attività:
- la costante e continuativa attività svolta dal 2008 nel ruolo di RAM/promoter di agreement Erasmus per i Corsi di Laurea in Design (Corso di laurea di Design e Corso di Laurea Magistrale DCVM_Design, Comunicazione Visiva e Multimediale) già Interfacoltà con Scienze Politiche, Sociologia, Comunicazione della Facoltà di Architettura Sapienza Università di Roma.
- Responsabile scientifico PDTA ExhibitLab. Interdisciplinary study center for Exhibit design. Laboratorio di teorie ricerche e progetti per l' exhibit design (dal 2025).
- il coordinamento scientifico dell’Unità per l’internazionalizzazione del Dipartimento PDTA, con la cura scientifica e l’organizzazione 25 attività realizzate dal 2020 al 2024, tra le quali: Conferenze internazionali, Giornate di studi, workshop internazionali, proposte dal Coordinatore o dai componenti dell’Unità afferenti al Dipartimento, cui l’Unità ha aderito e cui Dal Falco ha partecipato.
- Dal 2009 è membro esperto esterno per il Design per l’Agenzia Internazionale di valutazione del sistema universitario Portoghese: Permanent Member and External Review Team A3ES “Agência de Avaliação e Acreditação do Ensino Superior” (Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education - A3ES, Portuguese Agency of Evaluation and Accreditation). L’incarico è tuttora in corso con la partecipazione a 52 processi di valutazione e accreditamento per i Corsi di Studio di primo, secondo e terzo ciclo di Design di Università e Politecnici portoghesi.
Sempre in ambito internazionale, è stata ed è proponente e Responsabile scientifico di protocolli esecutivi di Accordi Quadro, siglati tra il Dipartimento e Università extra-UE.
- Responsabile scientifico del protocollo esecutivo per la ricerca, area del Design, tra Dipartimento PDTA e Tabriz Islamic Art University (Iran). (Delibera CdD 29/01/2016).
- Proponente dell’Accordo quadro e Responsabile scientifico del protocollo esecutivo tra Sapienza Università di Roma e Moscow State Stroganov Academy Design and Applied Arts (Mosca-Russia). (Delibera CdD 22/03/2016)
- Responsabile scientifico del protocollo esecutivo tra Sapienza Università di Roma Dipartimento PDTA / Faculté d'Architecture et d'Aménagement École Supérieure de Génie Civil Hanoï (NUCE) (Vietnam) (CdD 22/11/2018).
Dal 2013, ha costantemente promosso ACCORDI SCIENTIFICI E CULTURALI INTERISTITUZIONALI TRA SAPIENZA, DIPARTIMENTO PDTA, ISTITUZIONI PUBBLICHE DI ECCELLENZA, quali Musei Nazionali, Istituti di cultura esteri con sede nella città di Roma, Accademie di Belle Arti Nazionali; con ruoli di responsabilità scientifica e partecipazione a Comitati scientifici, Consigli di gestione di Accordi interistituzionali nazionali e internazionali dedicati ad Istituzioni museali.
Le attività inerenti sono state sviluppate nella ricerca con partecipazione a Convegni internazionali, Conferenze e pubblicazioni scientifiche relative, nella didattica con ideazione, cura scientifica e organizzazione di Workshop Internazionali e interdisciplinari, nella terza missione con disseminazione dei risultati conseguiti con presentazioni e giornate studio presso le sedi museali coinvolte.
È stata ed è:
- Componente del Comitato scientifico Accordo Quadro tra Sapienza Università di Roma e Soprintendenza Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna di Roma.
- Proponente e Responsabile scientifico Accordo di collaborazione scientifica e culturale tra Dipartimento PDTA e MIBACT-GAN-AAR (Gallerie Nazionali Barberini e Corsini),
- Proponente e Responsabile scientifico Accordo di collaborazione scientifica e culturale tra Dipartimento PDTA Sapienza Università di Roma e Istituto Balassi Accademia di Ungheria a Roma,
- Rappresentante Sapienza nel Consiglio di Gestione per l'Accordo Quadro tra Sapienza e Polo Museale del Lazio,

Nell’ambito delle ATTIVITÀ DI RICERCA, ha avuto e ha la responsabilità scientifica per progetti di ricerca internazionali e nazionali, ammessi al finanziamento sulla base di bandi competitivi che prevedono la revisione tra pari. Ha partecipato e partecipa alle attività di gruppi di ricerca con collaborazioni a livello nazionale. Ha avuto e ha formale attribuzione di incarichi di ricerca presso qualificati atenei e istituti di ricerca esteri o sovranazionali (P.I. I.).
In particolare è stata ed è:
- Dal 2004, Responsabile scientifico di 19 Ricerche di Ateneo, di 3 ricerche Accordi Bilaterali Interuniversitari, di 2 Professori Visitatori (fascia A) per attività di ricerca.
- Dal 1997, ha partecipato come componente a 36 Ricerche di Ateneo, PRIN, Grandi e medie attrezzature, Terza missione e nel ruolo di tutor di riferimento per avvio alla ricerca.
- Dal 2017 è Visiting professor presso Istituzioni Universitarie di prestigio all’estero in relazione ai protocolli esecutivi di cui è responsabile scientifico per 4 attività.
- Dal 2009 a oggi è Scientific Researcher CIEBA (Centro de Investigação e de Estudos em Belas Artes). In tale ruolo e come Scientific Researcher FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia. República Portuguesa, Ministerio da Ciência, Tecnologia e Ensinio Superior) è stata componente di gruppi di ricerca “equipa de investigação” di FCT per 7 progetti di ricerca. Le costanti e continuative relazioni con CIEBA, nonché l’agreement Erasmus di cui Dal Falco è Responsabile scientifico e RAM di primo e secondo ciclo (P LISBOA02-Universidade De Lisboa PORTOGALLO/Sapienza Università di Roma, Facoltà di Architettura), hanno sviluppato, approfondito e consolidato le relazioni scientifiche e culturali tra il Dipartimento PDTA di Sapienza Università di Roma e l’istituzione portoghese secondo un approccio in condivisione tra didattica e ricerca, con numerose attività, ascrivibili a:
_Conferenze (2013, 2017) lecture e seminari (2011/2012; 2013/2015; 2015/2016; 2017/2018; 2018/2019) tenuti da Dal Falco presso FBAUL;
_ Conferenze tenuti dal Prof. Raul Cunca (Universidade de Lisboa) presso Sapienza per la cura scientifica e l’organizzazione di Dal Falco (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2025);
_ Workshop internazionali presso Sapienza (A.A. 2009/2010; 2011/2012; 2013/2014; 2014/2015; 2015/2016; 2016/2017; 2021/2022; 2022/2023, 2024/2025);
_ Pubblicazioni scientifiche (Dal Falco 2013; 2014; 2019; Dal Falco et. al 2024);
_ Proposta di istituzione del Corso di Laurea Magistrale internazionale DeTICA il cui iter è stato completato.

I principali filoni di ricerca, relativi alle ricerche in qualità di P.I. e I. - i cui risultati hanno avuto come esito la partecipazione a Convegni internazionali e nazionali, Conferenze in qualità di Relatore invitato e pubblicazioni scientifiche ricomprese ai fini degli indicatori - riguardano:
- HISTORICAL STUDIES ON THE DESIGN OF MODERNITY.
Studi e ricerche sulla storia e la cultura del progetto del Novecento italiano per la conoscenza e la tutela del Patrimonio culturale. Studi e ricerche sul Design internazionale del Novecento (Francia, Germania, Russia). Caratteri morfologici e costruttivi, teorie, metodi, tecniche, strumenti del progetto di organismi architettonici e artefatti industriali. Materiali e contesti. Gli studi condotti hanno riguardato ricerche sulla storia e la cultura del progetto del Novecento italiano e internazionale per la conoscenza e la tutela del Cultural Heritage. Tale ambito di ricerche è stato sviluppato in relazione ad eventi storici fondamentali della storia del design europeo e, più recentemente del design russo, ha riguardato in particolare la cultura del progetto italiano degli anni Trenta e Quaranta. Gli studi sul design italiano di questo periodo sono collegati e in continuità con le ricerche condotte nel SSD ICAR/12, con focus sui materiali, prodotti e tecnologie di opere del Razionalismo e possibili ricadute rispetto ad alcune revisioni operative nel campo del restauro;
- THE EVOLUTION OF DESIGN.
Studi e ricerche sui caratteri morfologici, produttivi e tecnologici del design moderno e contemporaneo. Re-design come ricerca e interpretazione per l’innovazione.
Studi e ricerche sull’evoluzione morfologica, tecnologica e tipologica di sistemi di artefatti materiali e immateriali emblematici del Novecento e della contemporaneità, sui processi di mutamento significativi, al fine di individuare la permanenza e la variabilità di segni, materiali e tecnologie. Le ricerche relativi a progetti, prodotti, materiali, designer in contesti moderni e contemporanei, hanno riguardato il product design, la grafica e comunicazione visiva, il fashion design.
- DESIGN FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE.
Studi e ricerche sul design per la comunicazione museale. Studi e ricerche sul design per la comunicazione museale, con approfondimenti sulla complessità del progetto contemporaneo e sulle relazioni interdisciplinari tra design, architettura, arti visive, coreografiche, performative e intelligenza artificiale. Progetti concepiti in condivisione tra didattica e ricerca e in relazione ai ruoli di responsabilità scientifica inerenti Accordi interistituzionali nazionali e internazionali dedicati ad Istituzioni museali;
- Comunicare la storia. Studi e ricerche storiche e documentali in ambito audiovisivo e multimediale con cura scientifica e realizzazione di Documentari.
Un recente campo di ricerche riguarda la ricostruzione documentale di storie e eventi, personalità della storia, dell’architettura e del design del Novecento attraverso la realizzazione di documentari scientifici, avvalendosi oltreché la tradizionale consultazione bibliografica, di fonti orali e di archive audiovisivi quali Aamod (Fondazione Archivio audiovisivo del Movimento Operaio), Teche Rai, Istituto Luce.
- PUBLIC SPACE DESIGN. Climate change: artefatti, ambiente, contesti.
In tale ambito di ricerca sono a da considerare studi sullo spazio pubblico dal punto di vista del design per la rigenerazione di luoghi e contesti, intesi come spazi di coesione e comunità, dedicati alla cultura, alla socialità e all’ambiente. Lo spatial e urban design, il public e exhibit design, e il design della comunicazione visiva e multimediale concorrono a ricreare legami tra continuità fisica e integrazione sociale, tra specificità formale e identità culturale urbana contro la frammentazione e il degrado urbano. Sono altresì da considerare studi specifici sull’Antropocene e le numerose attività internazionali e interdisciplinari (conferenze, convegni internazionali, giornate di studio) per la cura scientifica e l’organizzazione nel ruolo di coordinatore scientifico dell’Unità per l’internazionalizzazione;

- DESIGN EDUCATION. Studi e ricerche sulla formazione universitaria nazionale e internazionale
Studi e ricerche sulla formazione universitaria nazionale e internazionale. Tale ambito di ricerca è collegato agli incarichi gestionali svolti per la Facoltà di Architettura e il Dipartimento PDTA di Sapienza Università di Roma, nonché l’attività svolta in qualità di membro Esperto Esterno di Commissioni internazionali di valutazione e accreditamento di Corsi di studio di Università e Politecnici portoghesi;
- DESIGN, ARTS AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES.
In questo campo di studi, l’attività teorica è collegata all’attività di ricerca progettuale perseguita dai primi anni del Duemila con prodotti tra arti e design (Digital sculpture, multimedia, installazioni) con partecipazione a Mostre Internazionali collettive e personali.
L’ATTIVITÀ DIDATTICA è stata svolta con incarichi di insegnamento ufficiale presso l’Ateneo Sapienza Università di Roma e presso Istituzioni universitarie nazionali e si è svolta con continuità dall’A.A. 1994/1995 in Corsi istituzionali della Facoltà di Architettura e di Università nazionali. Dai primi anni Novanta, con il Diploma Universitario di Disegno Industriale istituito in Sapienza nel 1993, insegna nei Corsi di Laurea in Design, contribuendo in modo costante e continuativo con la sua attività didattica, anche in relazione agli incarichi universitari gestionali che le sono stati affidati, ad implementare e gestire l’offerta formativa di Design in Sapienza Università di Roma.
L’impegno didattico è stato incardinato in Laboratori e Atelier progettuali del Corso di laurea in Design e dei Corsi di Laurea Magistrale, nell’ambito del Product Design, dell’Exhibit Design, del Design della comunicazione visiva e multimediale. Agli inizi della sua carriera universitaria ha anche insegnato in Laboratori di costruzione dell’Architettura e tenuto Corsi di Materiali e Tecnologie dell’architettura. Per un complessivo numero di 64 insegnamenti.
L’attività didattica nell’ambito del Dottorato di ricerca si è svolta con lezioni forntali, organizzazione di Conferenze, seminari e giornate di studio internazionali, come responsabile scientifico di progetti culturali e di ricerca. Ha svolto e svolge attività in qualità di supervisor, co-supervisor di tesi di Dottorato di Ricerca. A livello internazionale ha partecipato nel ruolo di External referee PhD e di Invited Member of the committee for the examination of the PhD thesis.
L’attività di visiting professor è stata svolta presso Tabriz Islamic Art University, Tabriz (Iran)in relazione al protocollo esecutivo per la ricerca, area del Design, di cui è responsabile scientifico tra Dipartimento PDTA e Tabriz Islamic Art University; e con continuità presso Moscow State Stroganov Academy Design and Applied Arts (Moscow, Russian Federation) in relazione al protocollo esecutivo tra Dipartimento PDTA e Moscow State Stroganov Academy Design and Applied Arts.
Dall’A.A. 2009/2010, ha svolto costante e continuativa attività in qualità di curatore e docente di 26 workshop internazionali realizzati con studenti dei Corsi di Laurea di Design di primo e secondo livello e Università straniere (TEACHING FOR INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP). Dall’A.A. 2015/2016 ha avviato sperimentazioni didattiche internazionali, interdisciplinari e interistituzionali, in considerazione di un innovativo approccio metodologico, pedagogico e progettuale (TEACHING FOR INTERNATIONAL INTERDISCIPLINARY WORKSHOP).
Dal 2012, con continuità, ha svolto attività didattica nell’ambito di ERASMUS TEACHING MOBILITY con 10 contratti presso qualificate Università e Scuole di Design europee (Francia e Portogallo). Ha anche svolto attività didattica presso la Stroganov Academy nell’ambito dell’Accordo quadro e protocollo esecutivo di cui è responsabile scientifico.
L’attività di Relatore di tesi di Laurea per il, a partire dall’A.A. 2005/2006 (anno nel quale ha preso servizio nel ruolo di professore associato) ad oggi è stata svolta con più di 220 tesi di Laurea in Design comprensive di Laurea in Disegno Industriale (primo ciclo) e di Lauree Magistrali (Design del prodotto e Design della Comunicazione visiva a mulltimediale). I lavori finali hanno riguardato diversi ambiti del Design con temi che per il progetto di artefatti materiali spaziano dal product design al design per lo spazio pubblico, e per il Design della comunicazione visiva e multimediale riguardano i settori della grafica e del multimedia design. Negli ultimi anni accademici le tesi sul Design for Cultural Heritage sono dedicate alla comunicazione museale, con apporti interdisciplinari nell’area degli studi sull’intelligenza artificiale.
Si segnalano inoltre le attività di Tutor di studenti di percorsi di eccellenza di primo e secondo livello e di tutor di tesi di laurea di studenti stranieri.

Dal 1995 ha svolto un’ intensa attività di ideazione, cura scientifica e organizzazione di Conferenze nazionali e internazionali, giornate di studio internazionali e lectio magistralis, anche in qualità di Relatore. In particolare, la cura e organizzazione di Lectio Magistralis ha visto la partecipazione di personalità di eccellenza (architetti, critici, designer, artisti) ed esposizione di opere d’arte di artisti di fama internazionale. Mentre, numerose tra le attività collegate a Conferenze e Giornate di studio internazionali hanno avuto come esito pubblicazioni scientifiche su riviste in classe A e contributi in volume con curatele dell’autrice, in condivisione tra didattica, ricerca e sperimentazione progettuale effettuate nei CdS in design, secondo una visione interdisciplinare tra le componenti dei SSD presenti nel Dipartimento PDTA.
È stata ed è curatore scientifico di Mostre, performances e allestimenti, dedicate ad approfondimenti anche interdisciplinari del design.
Dal 2003 al 2009, nell’ambito della manifestazione Internazionale Roma Design più, ha partecipato con la Cura e l’Organizzazione, alle iniziative proposte.
Nell’ambito dell’ATTIVITÀ DI SPERIMENTAZIONE PROGETTUALE, Dal Falco ha perseguito una ricerca teorica e applicata tra Design e Arti con 23 prodotti di design multimediale, opere artistiche digitali, digital sculpture, istallazioni e ha partecipato a 34 Mostre Internazionali collettive e personali, con pubblicazioni e cataloghi, comprendendo in tale quantità la partecipazione a ADI Design index con prodotti editoriali, tesi di laurea e documentario selezionati con diritto di partecipazione al premio Compasso d’oro.
In collegamento con il filone di ricerca Comunicare la storia. Studi e ricerche storiche e documentali in ambito audiovisivo e multimediale ha ideato, curato e realizzato due Documentari.
Si segnala la partecipazione su invito in continuità dal 2017 al 2022, all’evento internazionale Open House Roma, manifestazione che apre le porte ai visitatori di oltre 170 siti di architettura antica, moderna e contemporanea, case private con progetti di interior design, studi di architettura e eventi collaterali. Organizzata dall’Associazione Open City Roma, è patrocinata dal Senato della Repubblica, Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri, Ministero dei Beni e delle Attività Culturali e del Turismo e sostenuto da MIBACT-Direzione Generale Arte e Architettura Contemporanee e Periferie Urbane, Roma Capitale e Ordine degli Architetti Pianificatori Paesaggisti e Conservatori di Roma e Provincia. Studio Dal Falco ha partecipato a Open House presentando al pubblico il proprio lavoro tra arti e design.
Si segnala inoltre, l’attività inerente la ricerca e sperimentazione architettonica (precedente all’assunzione di ruolo di ricercatore universitario) con 20 tra Concorsi internazionali dedicati alla rigenerazione urbana, progetti e realizzazioni nell’ambito dell’Interior Design e Golf Design Courses.
Per quanto riguarda L’AFFILIAZIONE AD ACCADEMIE DI RICONOSCIUTO PRESTIGIO NEL SETTORE, sono da considerare la partecipazione come Membro di Accademie straniere, di Società scientifiche, di Centri di Ricerca Internazionali aventi prestigio nel settore, di Associazioni Universitarie Internazionali:

Nel merito di PREMI E RICONOSCIMENTI, per tre prodotti della sua attività scientifica e di ricerca è stata selezionata per ADI Design Index (2014, 2015, 2022) e ha conseguito tre Premi ‘Eccellenze del Design nel Lazio’ con diritto di partecipazione al Premio Compasso d’Oro.
I premi sono stati attribuiti a due prodotti editoriali pubblicati rispettivamente nel 2014 per il volume Dal Falco, F. (2013) (a cura di); nel 2015 per il volume Dal Falco, F. (2014); nel 2022 per il documentario “100 anni di Scuola di Architettura alla Sapienza. Testimonianze e storie 1958 – 1980” del 2021, realizzato in occasione delle Celebrazioni del Centenario della Facoltà di Architettura Sapienza. Il Documentario ha partecipato alla selezione e alla Mostra della XXVIII edizione del Compasso d’Oro (2024), per la sezione Ricerca teorica, storica, critica e progetti editoriali. Nel 2024 il premio è stato assegnato al Documentario "Giocando fuori ruolo. Renato Nicolini" con diritto di partecipazione alla XXIX edizione del Compasso d’Oro (2026), per la sezione Ricerca teorica, storica, critica e progetti editoriali.
In qualità di relatore per tesi di Laurea Magistrale in DCVM Sapienza Università di Roma ha ricevuto il premio ‘Targa Giovani ADI Compasso d’oro 2012’. Ha avuto riconoscimenti con recensioni su riviste sprecializzate del settore e menzioni per la stampa per le sue pubblicazioni scientifiche.
Per la sua attività di ricerca teorica ha ottenuto riconoscimenti e menzioni per la stampa, per la sua attività di sperimentazione progettuale tra arti, design e nuove tecnologie; ha ottenuto premi, segnalazioni e menzioni per la stampa.

Federica Dal Falco, architect, graduated in 1984 from the Faculty of Architecture at Sapienza University of Rome with a thesis in Architectural Composition entitled "Project for a Museum, a Planetarium, and a Weather Station on the Slopes of the Janiculum" (supervisor: Prof. Costantino Dardi) with a grade of 110/110 cum laude.
In 1993, she earned a PhD in Architectural Technology (PhD_IV° cycle, Sapienza University of Rome, affiliated with the University of Florence, the University of Venice, and the University of Reggio Calabria) with a thesis entitled: "Innovative Materials in the Architecture of Italian Rationalism: Aluminum Alloys and Glass Products. Technologies, Maintenance, and Restoration." Supervisor: Prof. Antonio Paris.
His scientific and academic training continued with studies for a CNR grant (1994-1995), with the research “Repertoire of building materials and innovative technical solutions in the decade 1930-1940” carried out at the Dipe (Department of Industrial Design and Building Production), and by participating in the CNR Cultural Heritage Project (1997-2001, Head of research Prof. Luciano Cupelloni) with research on the theme of the Restoration of the architecture of the modern movement (Case study: the railway stations of Angiolo Mazzoni).
In 1999, she became a full-time university researcher (SSD H09A) at the ITACA (Technological Innovation in Architecture and Environmental Culture) Department of Sapienza University. Confirmed in 2002, in 2003 she obtained the qualification as a full professor (SSD ICAR/12) at the First Faculty of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Milan.
Appointed as an associate professor (SSD ICAR/12) in 2005, she was confirmed in 2008 at the ITACA Department, now PDTA (Planning, Design, and Technology of Architecture). In 2012, she graduated from SSD ICAR/12 "Architectural Technology" to SSD ICAR/13 "Industrial Design" in the competitive sector 08/C1.
In 2015, she obtained the National Scientific Qualification as a Full Professor in the competitive sector 08/C1 Design and Technological Planning of Architecture, SSD Icar/13. She is qualified from 08/01/2015 to 08/01/2026.
In 2021, she obtained the National Scientific Qualification as a Full Professor in the competitive sector 08/C1 Design and Technological Planning of Architecture, SSD Icar/13 (ASN 2018/2020). She is qualified from June 3, 2021 to June 3, 2032.
In the context of UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES, since the early 2000s, she has consistently held and continues to hold management roles in the areas of teaching, research, monitoring activities, and internationalization.
Among his most significant roles are the management and coordination of teaching activities related to the undergraduate and graduate design programs, including international programs, and the first-level master's programs, consistently and continuously contributing to the growth of Sapienza's design program.
Since the 2004/2005 academic year, he has held the following positions:

- Regarding management activities related to Sapienza's first-level Master's programs, she was the proponent and Director of the Master's program in Fashion Design (2012/2013, not activated) and has been Director of the Master's program in Exhibit Design "Cecilia Cecchini" since 2022.

- Scientific Director of PDTA ExhibitLab. Interdisciplinary Study Center for Exhibit Design. Laboratory of theories, research, and projects for exhibit design (from 2025).
- Scientific coordination of the Internationalization Unit of the PDTA Department, with the scientific supervision and organization of 25 activities carried out from 2020 to 2024, including: international conferences, study days, and international workshops, proposed by the Coordinator or by members of the Unit affiliated with the Department, which the Unit has joined and in which Dal Falco has participated.
- Since 2009, he has been an external expert member for Design for the International Agency for the Evaluation of the Portuguese University System: Permanent Member and External Review Team A3ES "Agência de Avaliação e Acreditação do Ensino Superior" (Portuguese Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation of Higher Education - A3ES). This assignment is still ongoing, with participation in 52 evaluation and accreditation processes for undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate design programs at Portuguese universities and polytechnics.

Since 2013, she has consistently promoted inter-institutional scientific and cultural agreements between Sapienza University, the Department of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, and leading public institutions, such as National Museums, foreign cultural institutes based in Rome, and National Academies of Fine Arts. - Since 2004, Scientific Director of 19 University Research Projects, 3 Bilateral Interuniversity Agreement Research Projects, and 2 Visiting Professors (Tier A) for research activities.
- Since 1997, she has participated as a member of 36 University Research Projects, PRIN Projects, Large and Medium-Sized Equipment Projects, Third Mission Projects, and as a reference tutor for research initiation.
- Since 2017 he has been Visiting Professor at prestigious University Institutions abroad in relation to the executive protocols for which he is scientific responsible for 4 activities.
- From 2009 to today he has been Scientific Researcher CIEBA (Centro de Investigação e de Estudos em Belas Artes). In this role and as Scientific Researcher FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia. República Portuguesa, Ministerio da Ciência, Tecnologia e Ensinio Superior) she was a member of FCT's "equipa de investigação" research groups for 7 research projects. The ongoing and constant relationship with CIEBA, as well as the Erasmus agreement for which Dal Falco is Scientific Director and RAM of the first and second cycle (P LISBOA02-Universidade De Lisboa PORTUGAL/Sapienza University of Rome, Faculty of Architecture), have developed, deepened, and consolidated the scientific and cultural relations between the PDTA Department of Sapienza University of Rome and the Portuguese institution, according to a shared approach between teaching and research, with numerous activities, attributable to:

The main research areas, related to research as a researcher and an instructor—the results of which have included participation in international and national conferences, invited speakers at conferences, and scientific publications included in the indicators—include:
- HISTORICAL STUDIES ON THE DESIGN OF MODERNITY.
Studies and research on the history and culture of twentieth-century Italian design for the understanding and protection of cultural heritage. Studies and research on twentieth-century international design (France, Germany, Russia). Morphological and construction characteristics, theories, methods, techniques, and design tools for architectural organisms and industrial artifacts. Materials and contexts.
The studies conducted have focused on research on the history and culture of twentieth-century Italian and international design for the understanding and protection of cultural heritage. This area of research has been developed in relation to key historical events in the history of European design and, more recently, Russian design, with a particular focus on Italian design culture of the 1930s and 1940s. Studies on Italian design from this period are connected and in continuity with research conducted in the ICAR/12 SSD, focusing on the materials, products, and technologies of Rationalist works and their possible implications for some operational revisions in the field of restoration.
- THE EVOLUTION OF DESIGN.
Studies and research on the morphological, productive, and technological characteristics of modern and contemporary design. Re-design as research and interpretation for innovation.
Studies and research on the morphological, technological, and typological evolution of systems of material and immaterial artifacts emblematic of the twentieth century and the contemporary era, and on significant processes of change, in order to identify the permanence and variability of signs, materials, and technologies. Research on projects, products, materials, and designers in modern and contemporary contexts has focused on product design, graphics and visual communication, and fashion design.

- DESIGN FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE.
Studies and research on design for museum communication.
Studies and research on design for museum communication, with in-depth analysis of the complexity of contemporary design and the interdisciplinary relationships between design, architecture, visual arts, choreography, performance, and artificial intelligence. Projects conceived through shared learning and research, in accordance with the scientific responsibilities inherent in national and international interinstitutional agreements dedicated to museum institutions.
- Communicating History. Historical and documentary studies and research in the audiovisual and multimedia fields, with scientific oversight, and the production of documentaries.
A recent field of research involves the documentary reconstruction of stories, events, and personalities from twentieth-century history, architecture, and design through the production of scientific documentaries. This research utilizes traditional bibliographical consultation, oral sources, and audiovisual archives such as Aamod (Fondazione Archivio Audiovisivo del Movimento Operaio), Teche Rai, and Istituto Luce.
- PUBLIC SPACE DESIGN.
Climate change: artifacts, environment, contexts.
This research area includes studies on public space from the perspective of design for the regeneration of places and contexts, understood as spaces of cohesion and community, dedicated to culture, sociality, and the environment. Spatial and urban design, public and exhibit design, and visual and multimedia communication design contribute to recreating links between physical continuity and social integration, between formal specificity and urban cultural identity, combating fragmentation and urban decay. Specific studies on the Anthropocene and the numerous international and interdisciplinary activities (conferences, international symposia, study days) are also considered for scientific curation and organization in the role of scientific coordinator of the Internationalization Unit.
- DESIGN EDUCATION.
Studies and research on national and international university education
Studies and research on national and international university education. This area of research is linked to the management roles held for the Faculty of Architecture and the PDTA Department of Sapienza University of Rome, as well as the work performed as an External Expert member of international evaluation and accreditation commissions for degree programs at Portuguese universities and polytechnics.
- DESIGN, ARTS AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES.
In this field of study, theoretical work is linked to the design research pursued since the early 2000s, with products combining art and design (digital sculpture, multimedia, installations) and participation in international group and solo exhibitions.
TEACHING ACTIVITY has been carried out through official teaching positions at Sapienza University of Rome and at national universities and has been ongoing since the academic year 2019/2020. 1994/1995 in institutional courses at the Faculty of Architecture and national universities. Since the early 1990s, with the University Diploma in Industrial Design established at Sapienza in 1993, she has taught in the Design degree programs, contributing consistently and continuously through her teaching activities, also in relation to the university management positions assigned to her, to the implementation and management of the Design curriculum at Sapienza University of Rome.
Her teaching commitment has been centered in the design laboratories and studios of the Design degree program and the Master's degree programs, in the areas of Product Design, Exhibit Design, and Visual and Multimedia Communication Design. Early in her university career, she also taught in architectural construction laboratories and taught courses in architectural materials and technologies, for a total of 62 courses.
Teaching activities within the PhD program have included lectures, the organization of conferences, seminars, and international study days, and the scientific direction of cultural and research projects. He has served as supervisor and co-supervisor of PhD theses. At the international level, he has served as an external PhD referee and an invited member of the PhD thesis examination committee.
Visiting professorships include the Tabriz Islamic Art University, Tabriz (Iran), in relation to the executive protocol for research in the Design area, for which he is the scientific director between the PDTA Department and the Tabriz Islamic Art University; and, on an ongoing basis, the Moscow State Stroganov Academy of Design and Applied Arts (Moscow, Russian Federation), in relation to the executive protocol between the PDTA Department and the Moscow State Stroganov Academy of Design and Applied Arts.
Since the academic year 2019/2020, 2009/2010, he carried out constant and continuous activity as curator and teacher of 26 international workshops held with students of the first and second degree courses in Design foreign universities (TEACHING FOR INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP). Since the 2015/2016 academic year, he has initiated international, interdisciplinary, and interinstitutional teaching experiments, adopting an innovative methodological, pedagogical, and design approach (TEACHING FOR INTERNATIONAL INTERDISCIPLINARY WORKSHOP).
_ Since 2012, he has continuously taught within the ERASMUS TEACHING MOBILITY program with 10 contracts at prestigious European universities and design schools (France and Portugal). He has also taught at the Stroganov Academy under the Framework Agreement and Executive Protocol, for which he is the scientific director.
_ Since the 2015/2016 academic year, he has served as a thesis supervisor for the degree thesis. Since the 2005/2006 academic year (when he began his career as an associate professor), the faculty has developed over 220 degree theses in Design, including Bachelor's Degrees in Industrial Design (first cycle) and Master's Degrees (Product Design and Visual and Multimedia Communication Design). The final projects have covered various areas of design, with themes ranging from product design to design for public spaces for the design of material artifacts, and graphics and multimedia design for Visual and Multimedia Communication Design. In recent academic years, theses on Design for Cultural Heritage have focused on museum communication, with interdisciplinary contributions in the area of artificial intelligence studies.
_ Worth noting are also his activities as a tutor for students in undergraduate and graduate programs and as a tutor for theses of international students.

Most of her activities have resulted in scientific publications in conference proceedings, articles in class A journals, and book chapters.
Since 1995, she has been actively involved in the planning, scientific curation, and organization of national and international conferences, international study days, and keynote lectures, also as a speaker. In particular, the curation and organization of Lectio Magistralis has featured prominent figures (architects, critics, designers, and artists) and exhibited works by internationally renowned artists. Meanwhile, numerous activities related to international conferences and study days have resulted in scholarly publications in top-tier journals and contributions to volumes edited by the author, sharing teaching, research, and design experimentation within the Design degree programs, in keeping with an interdisciplinary vision among the components of the SSDs within the PDTA Department.
She has been and continues to be the scientific curator of exhibitions, performances, and installations, dedicated to in-depth, interdisciplinary, and design-related explorations.
From 2003 to 2009, she participated in the curation and organization of the initiatives at the Roma Design Più international event.
As part of her EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN ACTIVITY, Dal Falco has pursued theoretical and applied research between Design and the Arts with 23 multimedia design products, digital artworks, digital sculptures, and installations. She has participated in 34 international group and solo exhibitions, with publications and catalogs, including participation in the ADI Design Index with editorial products, degree theses, and a documentary selected for participation in the Compasso d'Oro award.
In connection with the research strand Communicating History: Historical and Documentary Studies and Research in the Audiovisual and Multimedia Field, she has conceived, curated, and produced two documentaries.
From 2017 to 2022, Studio Dal Falco participated by invitation only at the international Open House Roma event, which opened the doors to visitors to over 170 historic, modern, and contemporary architectural sites, private homes with interior design projects, architectural studios, and collateral events. Organized by the Open City Roma Association, it is sponsored by the Senate of the Republic, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, and supported by MIBACT - Directorate General for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries, Rome Capitale, and the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects, and Conservationists of Rome and the Province. Studio Dal Falco participated in Open House, presenting its work in the arts and design to the public.
Furthermore, Studio Dal Falco has been involved in architectural research and experimentation (prior to taking up a university research position), with 20 international competitions dedicated to urban regeneration, projects, and achievements in the fields of Interior Design and Golf Course Design.
Regarding AFFILIATION WITH ACADEMIES OF RECOGNIZED PRESTIGE IN THE SECTOR, membership in foreign academies, scientific societies, international research centers with prestige in the sector, and international university associations is considered:
- Since 2008, she has been a member of Design Degrees (Italian) Cumulus, International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design, and Media.
- Since 2009, she has been a Guest Investigator at CIEBA (Centro de Investigação e de Estudos em Belas-Artes), Design Section, University of Lisbon.
- Since 2013, she has been a member of the scientific society: SID (Società Italiana Design).
- Since 2019, she has been an Academician of the National Academy of Design Russian Federation. She was elected a member by the Academy on April 17, 2019.
- Since 2024 he has been a member of AIS/Design (Italian Association of Design Historians).
Regarding AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS, she was selected for the ADI Design Index for three of her scientific and research projects (2014, 2015, 2022) and has received three 'Excellence in Design in Lazio' awards, with the right to participate in the Compasso d'Oro Award.
- The awards were given to two editorial products published in 2014 for the volume Dal Falco, F. (ed.) (2013); in 2015 for the volume Dal Falco, F. (2014); and in 2022 for the documentary "100 Years of the Sapienza School of Architecture. Testimonies and Stories 1958 – 1980" (2021), produced on the occasion of the Centenary Celebrations of the Sapienza Faculty of Architecture. The documentary was selected for and exhibited at the 28th Compasso d'Oro (2024) in the Theoretical, Historical, Critical Research and Publishing Projects section. In 2024, the award was given to the documentary "Giocando fuori ruolo. Renato Nicolini," which also earned the right to participate in the 29th Compasso d'Oro (2026) in the Theoretical, Historical, Critical Research and Publishing Projects section.
- As supervisor for a Master's thesis at DCVM, Sapienza University of Rome received the 2012 ADI Compasso d'Oro Youth Award. He has received reviews in leading journals and press mentions for his scientific publications.
For his theoretical research, he has received awards and press mentions, as well as for his experimental design work involving the arts, design, and new technologies; he has received prizes, mentions, and press mentions.
Since 2002, she has served as a MEMBER OF THE EDITORIAL BOARDS OF CLASS A MAGAZINES, SCIENTIFIC MAGAZINES DEDICATED TO DESIGN, and SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEES OF EDITORIAL SERIES.
