LEZIONI APRILE-MAGGIO 2026
Si comunica che per un impegno scientifico concomitante la lezione del 16 aprile 2026 non avrà luogo.
A partire dal 23 aprile 2026 e fino alla fine del corso la lezione del giovedì si terrà in aula III dalle ore 14 alle ore 16. 
Giovedì 30 aprile 2026 la lezione sarà in Aula Seminari (I piano di Villa Mirafiori) dalle ore 13 alle ore 15.
Le lezioni del corso si concluderanno il 21 maggio 2026; la prova scritta sul manuale sarà il 22 maggio 2026 (più in avanti si forniranno informazioni più dettagliate a tale riguardo).

CORSO DI STORIA DELLA FILOSOFIA ANTICA (II SEM. 2025-2026 / L / 12 CFU)

Il corso di Storia della filosofia antica su "La filosofia di Lucrezio" avrà inizio in aula XIII martedì 24 febbraio 2026 alle ore 10.
Le lezioni proseguiranno secondo il seguente orario:
MARTEDÌ ore 10-12 (aula XIII)
GIOVEDÌ ore 14-16 (aula V)
VENERDÌ ore 14-16 e 18-20 (aula XIII).
Durante il periodo di didattica il ricevimento cadrà ogni venerdì ore 16-18 presso lo studio del docente.

TESI DI LAUREA TRIENNALE E MAGISTRALE
 
Gli Studenti interessati a chiedere la Tesi di Laurea Triennale e Magistrale in Storia della Filosofia Antica sono caldamente invitati a prendere contatto con il docente almeno un anno prima della sessione di laurea alla quale si intende partecipare. È, infine, estremamente auspicabile aver frequentato e superato almeno un esame con l'insegnamento del docente.

Francesco Verde (Rome 1983) achieved in 2011 a PhD degree (Philosophy) from Sapienza University of Rome’s Department of Philosophy with a doctoral dissertation about the Epicurean doctrine of minimal parts, published by Leuven University Press (Leuven 2013) in the Series “Ancient and Medieval Philosophy” (vol. XLVIII). In 2014 he was awarded by Sapienza University of Rome (on the occasion of 30 years of PhD programs) a Certificate of Merit for his special scientific and professional merits and recognitions. He was (2011-2014) a post-doctoral researcher in the History of Ancient Philosophy at the “Istituto per il Lessico Intellettuale Europeo e Storia delle Idee” (ILIESI-CNR/Rome). Finally, he acquired from the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) the National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor of the History of Philosophy (Periods: 2015-2026 and 2018-2030 / Scientific Disciplinary Sector 11C/5 [11/PHIL-05]) and as Full Professor of the History of Philosophy (Periods: 2020-2032 and 2025-2037 / Scientific Disciplinary Sector 11C/5 [11/PHIL-05]). In 2014-2015 he was a post-doctoral researcher in the History of Ancient Philosophy at Sapienza University of Rome’s Department of Philosophy. From 2016 he was an adjunct professor of the History of Ancient Philosophy and History of Ancient Scientific Thought at the same Department. In December 2016 he was awarded a Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers (18 months / University of Würzburg, Germany / Institut für Klassische Philologie).
From 01.04.2019 to 31.03.2022 he was tenure-track Assistant Professor of the History of Ancient Philosophy (M-FIL/07 [11/PHIL-05/B]) at the Department of Philosophy of Sapienza University of Rome. In the same Department, he is a member of the Teaching Board of the PhD course in Philosophy.
From 01.04.2022 he is Associate Professor of the History of Ancient Philosophy (M-FIL/07 [11/PHIL-05/B]) at the same Sapienza Department.
His scholarly interests focus mainly on the History of Ancient Philosophy, especially on Ancient Atomism (Leucippus and Democritus), Ancient Physics from Aristotle to Epicurus, Hellenistic Philosophies, and Herculaneum Papyrology. In addition to some papers devoted to Ancient Scepticism and Epicureanism, he published an Italian translation with a detailed commentary of Epicurus’ Letter to Herodotus (Rome 2010; with E. Spinelli’s Introduction), and an anthology of texts on the notions of Freedom, Fate and Grace from the Stoics to Augustine (Rome 2010). He is also the editor of the Italian edition of D. Sedley’s book (Berkeley 2007) on “Creationism” in Antiquity (Rome 2011).
He published a volume on the Hellenistic Peripatos on some specific topics such as time, knowledge, and soul (Berlin-Boston 2022).
Moreover, he published an introduction to Epicurus’ philosophy (Rome 2013). He edited (with Stéphane Marchand) a volume on Épicurisme et Scepticisme (Rome 2013), (with D. De Sanctis, E. Spinelli, and M. Tulli) Questioni epicuree (Sankt Augustin 2015), (with F. G. Masi, and S. Maso) the special section of Elenchos (2018) on the Materialistic Pathe, and (with M. Catapano) the special issue of Lexicon Philosophicum (2018) on the Hellenistic Theories of Knowledge. Finally, together with M. Tulli, D. De Sanctis and Francesca G. Masi, he edited a new Italian edition with historical-philosophical commentary of the Epicurus’ Letter to Pythocles (Baden-Baden 2022).
He is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of Syzetesis. Rivista di filosofia (with F. Sterpetti and M. Tedeschini), of Méthexis. International Journal for Ancient Philosophy (with F. Trabattoni), and the Series Editor of Doxai. Testi e studi di filosofia antica. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of Elenchos. Journal of Studies on Ancient Thought.
He has two children.
