Part IX – Research Activities (Short Version)

My research focuses on the molecular mechanisms by which microRNAs and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) regulate immune checkpoints, oncogenic pathways, and tumor immunogenicity in EBV-associated B-cell lymphomas, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), and ovarian cancer. The aim is to translate mechanistic insights into new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

a) EBV–oncogene–miRNA interactions in B-cell lymphomas:
Identified how EBV proteins (EBNA2, LMP1) regulate oncogenes and miRNAs relevant to lymphoma development.

b) EBV and miRNAs in multiple myeloma:
Demonstrated EBV-mediated induction of miR-21 in myeloma cells.

c) EBV/EBNA2 regulation of immune checkpoints:
Discovered EBNA2-driven PD-L1 upregulation via miR-34a suppression; contributed to the development of 3D microfluidic immunogenicity models and a related international patent.

d) miRNA-based therapeutics:
Showed preclinical and early clinical effectiveness of anti-miR-155 (cobomarsen) in DLBCL.

e) miR-200c in ovarian cancer:
Identified a dual onco-suppressive role and therapeutic implications of miR-200c-3p in ovarian cancer.

f) miR-24–ICOSL axis in EBV-positive lymphomas:
Demonstrated that EBNA2 induces miR-24 to reduce ICOSL, promoting immune evasion (Blood 2024).
