Liquid rocket engines classes will start on Monday 27th September at 10:00 am - Room 7 (AULA 7 -- RM031-E01P01L083)
Lectures will be given in-presence. Rooms 7 (Monday) and 4 (Tuesday) are large enough to allow all the registered students to participate.
Only students who declare they cannot attend to classes for reasons related to pandemic will receive support for remote participation. Support for remote participation will be activated only after receiving student declaration (by email to francesco.nasuti@uniroma1.it)
"Le lezioni si svolgeranno prioritariamente in presenza compatibilmente con i posti utilizzabili per ciascuna aula e garantendo la fruizione sincrona a distanza se necessaria per consentire la partecipazione a coloro che abbiano tentato di prenotarsi senza successo o che per motivi sanitari non possano partecipare alle attività in sede. PROPULSIONE SPAZIALE: Gli esami verranno svolti normalmente in presenza (bisogna portare con sè un dispositivo provvisto di connessione internet - smartphone, tablet, notebook - per la prima parte dell'esame) e nelle modalità previste per il corso Rocket Propulsion. La differenza principale consiste nel diverso quiz iniziale e nel fatto che tutti i testi saranno in inglese (ma il compito potrà essere svolto in italiano).
Si ricorda che:
- a partire da settembre 2021 la modalità di esame è unica e allineata con il corso di rocket propulsion (salvo il testo che verrà fornito in italiano a richiesta almeno 3 giorni prima della data della prova scritta)
- le pagine elearning del corso di propulsione spaziale sono state dismesse il 31.7.2021
- le domande del quiz saranno selezionate tra quelle disponibili alle pagine del corso rocket propulsion

Profilo Accademico e Scientifico
Francesco Nasuti è Professore Ordinario presso il Dipartimento di Ingegneria Meccanica e Aerospaziale della Sapienza Università di Roma e Direttore del CRAS – Centro di Ricerca Aerospaziale della Sapienza. Ha conseguito la Laurea Magistrale in Ingegneria Aeronautica e il Dottorato di Ricerca in Ingegneria Aerospaziale presso la Sapienza Università di Roma. Svolge attività didattica e di ricerca nel settore della propulsione spaziale e dei motori a razzo. Docente nei corsi di studio di ingegneria aerospaziale, è stato membro della Giunta di Presidenza del Consiglio d’Area in Ingegneria Aerospaziale dal 2001 al 2016 e dal 2019 al 2025, responsabile accademico per la mobilità internazionale degli studenti di ingegneria aerospaziale dal 2019 al 2026. Coordina inoltre il gruppo di ricerca T(H)RUST (Thermal Rocket propUlsion: a Sapienza University research Team), costituito da docenti, ricercatori, dottorandi e assegnisti di ricerca.
Principali Aree di Ricerca: Sistemi di propulsione a propellente liquido, Modellistica numerica di flussi compressibili, Soluzione numerica delle equazioni di Eulero, Navier-Stokes e RANS, Transitori di avviamento nei motori a razzo, Flussi separati e interazione getto-ambiente, Ugelli sovraespansi e ugelli innovativi (plug nozzle, dual-bell nozzle), Fluidi supercritici nei sistemi di raffreddamento, Scambio termico coniugato, Raffreddamento rigenerativo e a film, Instabilità di combustione negli endoreattori a propellente liquido, Endoreattori ibridi, Interazioni gas-superficie e fenomeni di ablazione, Modellizzazione della catalisi nei flussi ipersonici, Resistogetti ad acqua per cubesats.
Attività Didattica: Nel corso della carriera accademica ha insegnato numerosi corsi nell’ambito della propulsione aerospaziale, sia a livello di laurea (Propulsione Aerospaziale, Laboratorio di Calcolo di Motori) sia di laurea magistrale (Sistemi di alimentazione a turbopompe, Propulsori astronautici, Liquid Rocket Engines, Propulsione spaziale, Rocket Propulsion). È docente e membro delle commissioni di ammissione e di tesi del Master di secondo livello in Sistemi di Trasporto Spaziale della Sapienza Università di Roma sin dalla prima edizione (a.a. 2002–2003).
È coautore delle dispense utilizzate dagli studenti del corso di Propulsione Aerospaziale della Sapienza Università di Roma e da studenti di altre università italiane. Sono state inoltre utilizzate per la redazione di tesi di laurea esterne alla Sapienza e citate ripetutamente su Wikipedia:

Academic and Scientific Profile
Francesco Nasuti is Full Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome and Director of CRAS – Aerospace Research Center of Sapienza. He received both his M.S. degree in Aeronautical Engineering and his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from Sapienza University of Rome. His academic and research activities focus on space propulsion and rocket engines. As a faculty member in the Aerospace Engineering degree programs, he served as member of the Executive Board of the Aerospace Engineering Academic Council from 2001 to 2016 and from 2019 to 2025, and as academic coordinator for the international mobility of Aerospace Engineering students from 2019 to 2026. He also leads the T(H)RUST research group (Thermal Rocket propUlsion: a Sapienza University research Team), composed of faculty members, researchers, Ph.D. students, and postdoctoral fellows.
Main Research Topics: Liquid rocket propulsion systems, numerical modeling of compressible flows, numerical solution of the Euler, Navier–Stokes, and RANS equations, rocket engine start-up transients, separated flows and jet-environment interaction, overexpanded and advanced nozzles (plug nozzles, dual-bell nozzles), supercritical fluids in cooling systems, conjugate heat transfer, regenerative and film cooling, combustion instability in liquid-propellant rocket engines, hybrid rocket engines, gas-surface interactions and ablation phenomena, catalysis modeling in hypersonic flows, water resistojets for cubesats.
Teaching Activity: During his academic career, he has taught several undergraduate courses in aerospace propulsion, including Aerospace Propulsion and Aerospace Propulsion Computational Laboratory, as well as graduate courses such as Pump-fed Systems for Liquid Rocket Engines, Spacecraft Propulsion, Liquid Rocket Engines, Space Propulsion, and Rocket Propulsion. He has served as lecturer and member of the admission and thesis committees of the second-level Master’s Program in Space Transportation Systems at Sapienza University of Rome since its first edition (academic year 2002–2003).
He is co-author of the lecture notes used by students attending the Aerospace Propulsion course at Sapienza University of Rome and by students from other Italian universities. The notes have also been used for external thesis work and repeatedly cited on Wikipedia:
