Knowledge and Understanding - (Dublin 1)
At the end of the course, the student must demonstrate knowledge and application of appropriate interventions based on the organization, standards, and protocols/procedures shared by the scientific community. They must know the principles for managing clinical emergency and urgency situations, applying the necessary treatment interventions. Finally, the student must be able to understand the organizational foundations of emergency management by following standardized pathways and implementing international standard procedures.

Applied Knowledge and Understanding - (Dublin 2)
At the end of the course, the student must have the basic concepts to provide professional nursing care for the most common urgent pathologies. They must be able to recognize, among the most frequent surgical pathologies, those that pose an immediate life threat. Additionally, they should know the diagnostic pathways for other common urgent pathologies, understanding their management through the application of a critical nursing decision-making process and evidence-based nursing practice.

Autonomy of Judgment - (Dublin 3)
At the end of the course, the student must be able to identify, plan, and evaluate care interventions and collaborate with other professionals in diagnostic-therapeutic pathways. They should utilize the theoretical knowledge acquired to solve problems studied in the course. Autonomy of judgment will be stimulated during lectures by asking students to provide their interpretation of issues related to the subjects covered. During the exam, the student will also be evaluated on the level of autonomy of judgment achieved.

Communication Skills - (Dublin 4)
At the end of the course, the student must be able to present and explain their knowledge of the course subjects to non-expert interlocutors with logical rigor, appropriate language, and correct scientific terminology.

Learning Skills - (Dublin 5)
At the end of the course, the student must be able to assess their own knowledge and skills and consequently implement and/or update them independently by accessing textbooks, scientific articles, and online platforms.

Students will learn about the most frequent and relevant emergency conditions such as acute abdomen, digestive bleeding and trauma.
Particularly, they will learn the approach to these different pathologies and the skills of the nurse. They will learn the proper execution of certain procedures such as the NG tube placement, a bladder catheter. , etc

Basic Life Support (BLS) – principles of cardiopulmonary resuscitation: airway management, external chest compressions, pulmonary ventilation, defibrillation.

"ABCDE" approach in trauma patients: the patient with major trauma. Shock.

Monitoring of physiological parameters in emergency and resuscitation medicine: instrumental assessment of the patient. When and what to monitor.

Acute Respiratory Failure: general framework and principles of non-invasive management.

Acute Heart Failure: general framework. Acute coronary syndrome, acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema, venous and pulmonary thrombo-embolic disease.

Non-traumatic neurological emergencies and urgencies.

Acid-base balance disorders and diabetic emergencies.

Anaphylaxis and immediate allergic reactions. Acute asthma. Management of patients with allergic reactions and acute bronchospasm.

The intoxicated patient: general framework, drug intoxication and main syndromes. Management of the most common intoxications (decontamination, purification, elimination).

Drugs of abuse in the emergency department and withdrawal syndromes.

Procedural sedation and analgesia.
