At the end of the course the student should be able to know and be able to describe:
- Objectives of hygiene.
- Concept of health and disease.
- Levels of prevention. Diagnostic tests (sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value).
- Epidemiology and etiology of infectious diseases.
- Risk factors and the chain of infection (host, agent and environment). Modes of transmission.
- Prophylaxis of infectious diseases (specific, direct, indirect).
- Care-related infections: epidemiology, etiology and modes of transmission.
- The National Health Service: history and principles of organization.

FORMATIVE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, the student must be able to:
Know the basic principles of the scientific method. Know the general principles of EBM and EBP. Know the fields of application of evidence-based physiotherapy (EBPh). Understanding the use of scientific literature as a basis for clinical reasoning. Knowing how to formulate a clinical question according to the PICO rule. Knowing how to search for evidence and scientific articles in the main medical and rehabilitation databases. Knowing how to recognize the main types of primary research clinical studies and secondary research studies. Analyze the statistical significance and the clinical relevance of a study. Evaluate the methodological and reporting quality of a study through the knowledge and application of the main evaluation checklists. To know the principles of qualitative research and its fields of application. Know the rules for the compilation of a cognitive and evaluation questionnaire. Know the rules for writing a scientific poster. Know the rules for completing a thesis, an abstract and an effective presentation.

CONTENTS AND PROGRAM
The contents of the Study Program are represented by the following topics:
The scientific method and research: principles and methodologies. Medicine and evidence-based clinical practice. Evidence-based physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Decision-making processes and clinical reasoning. The formulation of clinical questions and the PICO rule. The databases: Google Scholar, PubMed, Embase, PEDro, Cinhal, PsycINFO, Eric, Cochrane, Meta databases. Search strategies and choice of search terms. The types of clinical studies: descriptive, observational and experimental. Secondary research studies: guidelines, systematic reviews and Meta-analyzes. Statistical significance and clinical relevance of a study. Sources of BIAS and systematic errors. Methodological quality and reporting of clinical trials. Evaluation checklist: Jadad score, PEDro score, Cochrane risk of bias, Consort, Strobe Statement, CARE reporting, PRISMA Statement, Clinical Appraisal Skills Program - CASP. Principles and fields of application of qualitative research: interviews, focus groups, participatory observation, grounding theory, ethnographic research. Design, compilation and validation of cognitive and evaluative questionnaires. Design of scientific posters and presentations. Rules for writing scientific and abstract articles. Rules for the compilation of the degree thesis.
