Epidemiological methodology. Introduction to epidemiology. Demography and health statistics applied to epidemiology: sources and methods of data collection.
Data collection methodology. Measurements of the frequency of health events (incidence and prevalence). Risk assessment: absolute risk and relative risk. Epidemiological studies: ecological studies. Analytical epidemiology. Experimental epidemiology. General epidemiology of infectious diseases. General principles of epidemiology of non-infectious diseases.
Prevention methodology. Prevention objectives and methods. Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. Prevention of infections. Methods and means for sterilization, disinfection and disinfestation. Vaccines, immunoglobulins, immune sera.
Infectious diseases. Epidemiology and prevention of enteric infections. Cholera. Typhoid fever. Paratyphoid fever. Gastroenteritis (viral, bacterial, parasitic). Viral hepatitis. Brucellosis.
Environmental hygiene. Drinking water: water supply; drinkability criteria; drinking water systems; waste water. Solid waste.
Food hygiene. Toxinfections: salmonella, staphylococci, Clostridium perfringens. Clostridium botulinum, Bacillus cereus, Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Mycotoxins. Parasites.
