Learning Outcomes: Students acquire basic skills related to the history and geography of the language, with particular reference to the phonological level; students understand the basic problems involved in translation (Portuguese-Italian).
1.Knowledge and understanding: students know the main stages of the evolution of the Portuguese language and the main differences between its variants, with particular reference to phonology, but also to morphology and vocabulary; 2. Applied knowledge and understanding: students are able to apply, in a comparative key, the knowledge acquired to wider contexts, such as that of Romance languages or, more generally, European languages; students are able to reflect critically on the linguistic context of reference; 3. Making judgements: students are able to to reflect autonomously on texts belonging to different phases or varieties of the language, analyzing their specific characteristics; 4. Communication: students are able to appropriately use the specific lexicon of the discipline, both in Portuguese and in Italian, with particular reference to diachronic linguistics and to phonology; 5. Learning skills: students engage in directed reading and pursue further studies applying the competences that they have acquired to other subjects in their field of studies.

Educational objectives

The course aims at introducing the German language at a bachelor level. This main objective will be reached through two specific objectives. The first is the acquisition of the communicative-linguistic competences in German as a foreing language corresponding to the A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The second is the acquisition of specific theoretical knowledge on the structure of the German language through the formal analysis of its phonetics, phonology and morphology in comparison to those of Italian.
The first specific objective will be reached through the German-as-a-foreing-language courses held by native speakers of German (lettorato), at the end of which students will be able to: i) understand the meaning of simple written texts on everyday topics (speaking about themselves, their family, their work, etc); ii) understand simple clearly pronounced sentences; iii) write short and simple texts dealing with everyday topics; iv) talking about everyday topics with a simple language.
The second specific objective will be reached through the course held by Dr Cognola, at the end through which students will acquire a series of theoretical notions key to carry out a formal analysis of the phonetics, phonology and morphology of German. Specifically, at the end of the course students will be able to read an IPA transcription and to transcript German words with IPA, to recognise, describe and apply the phonological processes most common in German, to analyse the morphological structure of German words, to recognise and describe the morphological process found in German (such as inflection, composition, etc). Moreover, at the end of the course students will be able to carry out a finegrained metalinguistic comparison between Italian and German in the areas of phonetics, phonology and morphology, in which both differences and shared traits are considered.

At the end of the course the student will have to know the grammatical, lexical and communicative basics of the Spanish language in relation to the linguistic abilities with emphasis on the knowledge of the main phonetic, grammatical and lexical aspects of the language, and on the gradual approach to reading and comprehension of written texts (literary or not) - level B1 of the QERL; aspects of contrastive grammar by reflecting on the difficulties that Italian-speaking people usually encounter in reading, and in understanding and translating Spanish written texts.

The main objective of the course is to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of the main literary movements and of the most relevant authors of modern and contemporary South Asia. The classes are organized through interactive lectures where students are asked to read literary texts and critical essays and are encouraged to carry out preliminary researches on assigned topics, in order to share their findings, ideas and comments with their peers, under the supervision of the professor. Rather than transferring knowledge in a passive way, the course aims to stimulate students’ individual interests and to create a constructive and thought-provoking environment where scientific curiosity towards the literatures of the Indian subcontinent is constantly elicited and provocatively addressed. Through the use of audiovisual sources to support written and oral literatures, students are encouraged to draw useful links between various forms of literary and artistic narrations. Watching and analyzing films based on novels and/or literary figures, reading and critically engaging with theatrical works adapted into experimental plays, tracing and working through migrant narratives, interacting with literary materials produced in diasporic contexts are also encouraged and stimulated as a way to further deepen the critical knowledge of modern and contemporary literatures of the Indian subcontinent. This can be more easily achieved if the students are willing to take as propaedeutic courses the teachings of Hindi, Bengali, Sanskrit and/or Tibetan languages. Moreover, the courses of History of India, Religions and Philosophies of India and Archeology and Art History of India and Central Asia are extremely relevant for the understanding of the historical, artistic and philosophical contexts that underly the production of literary works.
