Upon completion of the course, the student should possess general knowledge of the morphological and physiological characteristics of pathogenic and commensal microorganisms; the basis of microbial pathogenicity; and microorganism-host interactions in infections. In particular, the course aims to provide the Student with the cognitive tools necessary to relate the characteristics of various microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, mycetes) to diseases of infection, prophylaxis and methods of prevention of microbial infection and contamination, hints of microbiological therapy and diagnosis.

The exam consists of a written or oral exam that deals with one or more topics of the individual modules in detail. The knowledge related to each module contributes together with the overall assessment.To pass the exam the student must obtain a grade of not less than 18/30 in each module.
The frequency of lessons is also taken into consideration for the evaluation.
Exams are held at the end of the course.
