Introduction to Laboratory Medicine: Factors influencing laboratory data, handling and storage of biological samples, interpretation of laboratory results, reliability of an analytical result, screening tests.
Blood and its components, hematopoiesis, erythropoiesis, iron transport and laboratory analyzes to identify iron deficiencies, blood count interpretation, anemias and anemia diagnostic approach.
Serum proteins and their diagnostic significance, interpretation of the protidogram
Notes on glucose metabolism, glucose absorption methods (in muscles/adipose tissue and in hepatocytes), insulin, diabetic and insulinemic curve, type I and II diabetes mellitus, laboratory analyzes for the study of diabetes.
Notes on lipid metabolism, apolipoproteins, lipoproteins and their function, laboratory diagnosis of hyperlipidemia, laboratory tests for the evaluation of cardiovascular diseases
Kidney function study: urinalysis
The liver: liver function tests. Bilirubin and jaundice, serum markers indicative of hepatocellular damage
Primary and secondary hemostasis. Laboratory hemostasis: bleeding time, platelet count, platelet adhesion test, platelet aggregation test, aPTT and PT evaluation, fibrin peptide determination, D-dimer assay
