Learning outcomes

Module:
The course is intended to deepen the basic physiological preparation relating to healthy aging and disorders associated with aging, integrating biological, physiological and cognitive points of view related to senescence. It intends to stimulate reflection on specific methods and techniques of nursing care and to support dialogue between different professional figures such as doctors and social and health personnel. The course constantly focuses on the concept of care load and on the figure and role of the nurse in different care settings: hospital, acute department, clinic, local territorial structures dedicated to the rehabilitation and therapeutic care setting.
Illustration of the service networks aimed at chronic, comorbid and multi-morbid patients.
From this perspective, chronic pathologies are addressed: from the concept and pathophysiology of chronicity to the description of the main syndromic conditions: congestive heart failure, COPD and cardinal pathologies, diabetes mellitus and related pathologies, malnutrition and deficiency syndrome, concepts of clinical fragility.
Methodological specificity of multidimensional assessment and geriatric multidimensional assessment from a nursing point of view.

Module:
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
Recognize the main clinical presentations of the most relevant neurological diseases in nursing practice.
Describe the approach to the neurological patient and the principles of the neurological physical examination.
Understand the pathophysiological basis of major neurological disorders, including cerebrovascular diseases, dementias, movement disorders, motor neuron diseases, neuromuscular junction disorders, disorders of consciousness, central nervous system infections, and multiple sclerosis.
Apply acquired knowledge to effectively interact with the healthcare team in the care pathway of neurological patients.
Communicate clearly and appropriately with patients and their families regarding neurological disorders, demonstrating awareness of the associated cognitive and behavioral issues.
Develop independent learning skills for continuous education in the neurological field.

Module:

Prerequisites

Module:
It is considered absolutely necessary that the student has knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the main organs and systems, in particular knowledge and mastery of topics addressed in the first semester such as pharmacology with reference to the mechanisms of drugs and adverse reactions, elements of gerontology and basic geriatrics with the mechanisms of aging, have acquired professionalizing experiences and practices in practical internships.

Module:
A basic knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system is useful. It is important to have acquired general clinical semeiotics and the fundamentals of general pathology.
