At the end of the course, the student will have the knowledge for nursing management in inpatient wards and Emergency Room settings for patients undergoing urgent surgical procedures. They will be provided with diagnostic orientation elements, surgical therapy notes, and correct nursing management of surgical patients, particularly focusing on surgical wounds, abdominal drains, nasogastric tubes (SNG), and urinary catheters. Nursing management in inpatient wards, intensive care units, and Emergency Department resuscitation rooms for patients with chest trauma, with particular attention to the most common condition, pneumothorax, will also be covered. Nursing management in inpatient wards and intensive care units for patients with thoracic drainage will also be addressed.

Module:
Specifically, we will delve into the techniques necessary to complete the theoretical knowledge vital for screening, monitoring and treating emergency situations. Hemodynamic monitoring will be discussed in detail with an understanding of the functioning of the various devices used in the clinic and fundamental for the continuous care of the patient. Furthermore, the chapter on invasive and non-invasive ventilatory assistance will be explored, which complete the chapter on oxygen therapy. Cognitive tools will be provided regarding extra-corporeal techniques and cardiovascular assistance (ECMO and IABP), with particular reference to nursing care. The tools will be given to understand and manage continuous purification treatment in the various applications (SCUF, CVVH, CVVHD, CVVHDF).
