1. Concepts of aetiology and pathogenesis. Environmental pathology from transfer of mechanical energy, thermal energy, radiant energy, atmospheric pressure, from electric currents and from gravitational accelerations.
2. Environmental pathology from chemical agents (poisons, lead) from malnutrition and microorganisms.
3. Innate immunity; cells and mechanisms of action.
4. Induced immunity; cells and mechanisms of action.
5. Type I, II, III and IV hypersensitivity.
6. Inflammation. Acute inflammation. Vascular phase. Cellular phase. Chronic inflammation. Reparative processes. Granulation tissue. Wound healing.
7. Oncology. Cancer concept. Criteria of benignity and malignancy. Principles of classification and staging of tumors. Epidemiology of tumors. Oncogenes and tumor suppressors.
8. Endocrine pathophysiology: hormones and neurormones, hormonal receptors, signal transduction and cellular response.
9. Pathophysiology of the hypothalamic-pituitary system: hypothalamic hormones, adenohypophyseal and neurohypophyseal hormones. Insipid diabetes and pituitary neoplasms.
10. Pathophysiology of the thyroid and parathyroid glands: Formation and function of thyroid hormones. Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves' disease.
11. Pathophysiology of renal function: renal function and structure in all its components. Glomerular and tubular diseases.
12. Adrenal pathophysiology: Synthesis and action of cortical and medullary hormones. Cushing's syndrome and Addison's disease.
13. Pathophysiology of the respiratory system: Structure and function of the respiratory system in all its components. Bronchitis, Asthma and Emphysema.
14. Pathophysiology of the liver: Steatosis, Hepatitis and Cirrhosis.

Biopsies: methods of collecting, storing, fixing and sending the material. Diagnostic cytology: conventional smear and thin layer cytology. Intraoperative biopsy. Request form for histological and cytological examination. Cytopathology of the female genital system. Outline of anatomy and physiology.
Role of the PAP test in screening programs for the early diagnosis of carcinoma of the portio. Non-neoplastic, pre-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions of the uterine neck. Metrorrhagia, hyperplasia, benign and malignant neoplasia of the uterine body. Pathology of the trophoblast. Histotypes of tumors, grading, staging.
