At the end of the course of SCIENZE DELL'IGIENE DENTALE I students must have the theoretical knowledge to develop a preventive plan focused on knowledge of the dento-periodontal health characteristics related to a proper home and professional oral hygiene maintenance and prevention, with particular attention to materials and techniques.

The student will be able to distinguish the characteristics of health and disease conditions and risk of adult and pediatric patients. The aim of the course is to provide knowledge of basic periodontology, delving into the issues involved in periodontal anatomy, pathophysiology and diagnostics. The student at the end of the course should know the anatomy of the periodontium, the etiology of periodontal disease and the modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors involved in its etiopathogenesis. The student must demonstrate knowledge of the general principles of periodontal disease diagnosis and clinical signs of disease recognition.
