The educational goal of the course of SCIENZE DELL'IGIENE DENTALE III can be summed up in understanding the concept of wellness and prevention and its application in Community Medicine and Dentistry.

At the end of the course students must have the theoretical knowledge, practical skills and clinical criteria in preventive and community dentistry, defined as "the science and art of preventing dental disease, promote oral health and improve the quality of life through joint efforts of society as a whole".
At the end of the course students must have the practical skills of correctly communicating with patients in medical history interview, calculating the major oral health community indices, individual caries risk assessment.

Upon completion of the course, the student must know the principles of operation of the dental clinic. Anamnesis. Odontostomatological objective examination aimed at epidemiology. Generalities, Clinic of the healthy individual. Knowledge of dental materials and the principles of use from both a theoretical and practical point of view. dental materials used in conservation, fixed and removable prostheses, implantology, orthodontics and periodontics.

The course aims to address issues related to the quality of life in relation to oral health and primary and secondary prevention of the main diseases of the oral cavity. The various preventive strategies and the oral hygiene sciences and techniques applied to the community and to the territory according to the OM.M.S. At the end of the course the student must show the mastery of the knowledge related to the Oral Hygiene as a service for the community and in the social sphere. The student must have acquired skills, tools and a conscious autonomy of judgment in relation to the social role of Oral Hygiene and in relation to the field of use of techniques and tools illustrated during the course. The student must be able to identify the functional correlations between multiple therapies and therapeutic tools, to extract and summarize the relevant information related to the instrument or technique under examination.

General principles, Community Medicine and Dentistry. General principles and application examples. Epidemiology and Clinic. Odontostomatological objective examination aimed at epidemiology. Generalities, Clinic of the healthy individual. Epidemiological survey of the oral-dental state, WHO survey folder and calculation of the relative indices. Epidemiological investigation methodology according to WHO, Epidemiology, etiopathogenetic aspects and preventive strategies of the main oral-dental pathologies according to WHO, Oral Health indicator systems. National and international concepts and guidelines for primary, secondary and tertiary prevention in dentistry, health promotion and health education (e.g.: motivation and organization of a prevention programme, food education, oral hygiene, systemic and topical fluoroprophylaxis, periodic checks) , product category and principles of use of materials useful for the prevention and maintenance of oral health in all ages.
The course aims to provide the student with the essential elements of
knowledge:
of the dental working environment (united);
armchair working positions;
of the collection of anamnetic data to know the general clinical and dental history of the patient with particular attention
to systemic diseases that may have implications for oral health and dental hygiene.

sciences and oral hygiene techniques applied to the community and territory
according to the protocols of the WHO.
The course aims to address the issues related to the diagnosis and treatment of
oral diseases, and in particular the aspects of quality of life in relation to Oral Health. (20 hs)

As reported in the art. 4 of the Regulations for first-level study courses in the health professions for institutional positions, the seminar is an educational activity carried out by one or more teachers, even from different disciplinary fields; it is achievable with lessons, interactive courses, seminars that explore curricular topics or deal with extra-curricular topics aimed at acquiring professional skills. Participation in conferences also organized in collaboration with bodies outside the University can be recognized by the Dean's office, with the attribution of a number of credits proportional to the duration and contents of the event. The credits acquired with the seminar activity are duly certified by the teacher in charge of the seminar activity who also provides for the cumulative verbalization. The seminar activity is an integral part of the training curriculum, attendance is compulsory and cannot be less than 75%.

Following paragraph 5 of the Regulations of the Dental Hygiene School, the student is required to attend educational activities, formal, non-formal, vocational. The frequency is checked by the teachers through signature / updated lists provided by the Academic Office, as established by CCLID. The certificate of mandatory attendance to the teaching course is required to the student to be admitted at the final test.

To pass the exam it is necessary to achieve a grade of not less than 18/30 in each module. The student must demonstrate that he has acquired sufficient knowledge of the subjects of Preventive and Community Dentistry, Dental Hygiene and Clinical Propaedeutics, a basic knowledge of the subjects of Statistical and Epidemiological Methodology and of being able to support an anamnestic interview, and perform a basic dental examination. To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must instead demonstrate that he has acquired an excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to connect them in a logical and coherent way.
The verification methods are:
a) Ongoing evaluation during the internship with supervised documentation of at least one experience
b) Evaluation of the seminars on the epidemiological and preventive framework of oral pathologies managed by the students in small groups with guided debate
c) Final evaluation of the course based on methods and criteria chosen by the teacher
(one or combination of several types of assessment tests, including: oral presentation on a pre-selected topic, presentation and discussion of an internship experience, practical test, oral question on the program, etc.)
