Learning outcomes
Module: General pathology
N/D
Module: Pathophysiology general
N/D
Module: Clinical pathology
The expected learning outcomes require the student to acquire the ability to describe the organization and functioning of our immune system, both the innate component and the specific one, as well as to describe and understand the etiopathogenetic bases and manifestations of the main immunopathological frameworks
Module: Clinical biochemistry
At the end of the course students must have a clear understanding of the notions of clinical biochemistry, be able to make logical connections within the topics studied during the course.
Module: Immunology
The student will be able to describe a course topic and explain its importance to the course's subject.
Prerequisites
Module: General pathology
knowledge of cell physiology, chemistry and cell biology
Module: Pathophysiology general
knowledge of cell physiology, chemistry and cell biology
Module: Clinical pathology
In order to understand the teaching content and to achieve the learning objectives, at the beginning of the didactic activities foreseen by the didactic module the student must possess basic knowledge of hystology and anatomy.
Module: Clinical biochemistry
The students are required to know the basics of biochemistry.
Module: Immunology
Be enrolled in the degree course.

Introduction to immunology. Organs and tissues of the immune system. The cellular and molecular components of the immune system. Innate immunity: anatomical and physiological barriers; phagocytosis, professional phagocytes and their receptors; the complement system; cytokines; natural killer (NK) cells. Macrophages M1 and M2. Specific immunity: characteristics and functions. B lymphocytes and their antigen receptor: characteristics of B lymphocytes; secreted antibodies: structure, functions, classification. T lymphocytes: characteristics of helper (CD4 +) and cytotoxic (CD8 +) T lymphocytes. MHC molecules and their role. The cells that present the antigen and their role. The generation of the receptor repertoire and clonal selection. Tolerance: recognition and distinction between self and non-self; self tolerance. The immune response against pathogens. Vaccines, vaccination strategies, types of vaccines. Immunopathology: the alterations of the immune response; classification of immunopathologies; type I hypersensitivity: allergies; hypersensitivity of type II, III and IV; disruption of tolerance and autoimmunity; congenital and acquired immunodeficiencies.
