The course aims to introduce the methodological principles of research and the critical evaluation of the evidence found in the scientific literature of nursing interest.

To this end, the Student will possess the basic knowledge that allows him to carry out an evidence-based practice.

At the end of the course the student will be able to:
• Know the history and general principles of evidence-based care (EBN);
• Describe the main features of the various study designs;
• Ask relevant questions for nursing care;
• Know the main biomedical banks;
• Know the main research strategies for evidence of efficacy and related operational tools;
• Critically read a systematic review;
• Access a biomedical database to search for evidence of efficacy and structure a simple research report.

The basic theoretical topics on EBN tools and methodologies will be addressed in lectures for understanding the entire process of which the evidence-based practice is made up.

The methodological steps for finding the best available evidence and achieving the synthesis of knowledge on a given topic will then be illustrated through laboratory and training activities on the main databases.

The teaching of Evidence Based Nursing corresponds to 1 CFU which is equivalent to 12 hours lessons.
Lessons will be delivered during the first semester (October / November) providing compulsory attendance of 75% as required by the teaching system.
