knowledge and understanding of the fundamental concepts, authors, issues and theoretical traditions of political philosophy, through the study of monographs by classical and contemporary authors, as well as with the aid of university-level textbooks and through acquisition of the fundamental vocabulary of the discipline; ability to apply this knowledge and understanding to the study of political philosophy; ability to convey what has been learned; development of critical and discussion skills of classical and contemporary philosophical-political texts, grounded in a sound knowledge base.

Given for granted some basic and indispensable goals (knowledge and understanding in the field of studies; ability to apply knowledge and understanding; capability of critical analysis; communication skills on that which has been learned; capacity to undertake further studies with some autonomy), the course intends to attain the following specific objectives: through the reading of the considered works, and by exploring the theoretical questions such works put into play, students: 1) may refine and deeply develop their abilities to understand, critically analyse and interpret the philosophical texts included in the program; 2) may refine and deeply develop their abilities to argue about the examined philosophical questions through the adoption of the appropriate philosophical lexicon; 3) may refine and deeply develop their abilities to manage conceptual tools for the understanding of the theoretical and problematical knots of Aesthetics, with particular reference to the following Leopardian themes emerging from the texts to be studied: the question of the relationship between art and philosophy, declined in particular as the relationship between poetry and thought; the notions of “laughter” and “imagination”; the theme of “illusions” and its connection with the cognition of “truth”; the conceptual pair “nature-civilisation”; the relationship between the idea of “nothingness” and the idea of life as an “arcane and stupendous thing”; the “fashion-death” knot; 4) may refine and deeply develop their abilities to grasp connections between different themes, texts and authors.

knowledge of key doctrines held by thinkers and schools of Greek philosophy, also thanks to the direct reading of a selected anthology of ancient texts; acquisition of adequate historical (and diachronically coherent) notions about various relevant hubs of ancient thought dedicated to the philosophical debate from Thales to Damascius; capacity of critical reading of the most significant theoretical options; mastery of technical philosophical lexicon in different moments of its evolution and capacity of adequately re-using it; enhancement of a personal critical attitude; capacity of improving argumentative skills on the basis of a solid basic knowledge.

In accordance with the broader educational framework of the course of study, the teaching of Philosophy of Language has the following specific goals: (a) promoting knowledge and understanding of the theories and conceptual tools elaborated by the philosophy of language in relation to the human sciences; (b) developing the ability to recognise and understand the historical genesis of the issues that animate contemporary research on language; (c) improving student's reflective, argumentative and critical abilities through open discussions on the main authors and issues proposed in the lectures and the possibility to write a short paper on one of the topics covered in the teaching (to be agreed with the lecturer).

Given for granted some basic and indispensable goals (knowledge and understanding in the field of studies; ability to apply knowledge and understanding; capability of critical analysis; communication skills on that which has been learned; capacity to undertake further studies with some autonomy), the course intends to attain the following specific objectives: knowledge of XX century events and history, understanding of the key issues of historical research on this period, specific investigation of the history of Fascism in Italy and Europe.

Educational objectives

According to the expected learning outcomes of the Study Programme, the Course of Semiotics aims at the following specific goals: a) promoting knowledge and understanding of contemporary semiotic theories about cognition and communication; b) stimulating capabilities in the analysis and understanding of the historical genesis of contemporary issues in semiotic research; c) improving student’s reflective, argumentative and critical abilities through open discussions on the main authors and issues proposed in the lectures and by writing a short essay.

At the end of the course the student will demonstrate:

A. to know the main theories of contemporary semiotics and their specific terminology, and to understand their origins and developments (oral exam about knowledge and understanding);

B. to be able to write a short essay about one of the issues of the course (written exam about applying knowledge and understanding);

D. to be able to communicate in a clear way the issues of the course, using the appropriate terminology (oral exam about the communication skills);

E. to be able to go into the issues of the course with autonomous in-depth studies, starting from the debates carried out in the classroom and the given bibliographic suggestions.

The general objective of the course is to to provide students with an adequate knowledge of the history of education from the perspective of the history of ideas. The course is divided into three parts, dedicated respectively to antiquity, the Middle Ages and the modern and postmodern age.

Given for granted some basic and indispensable goals (knowledge and understanding in the field of studies; ability to apply knowledge and understanding; capability of critical analysis; ability to communicate about what has been learned; skills to undertake further studies with some autonomy), the course intends to attain the following specific objectives: to frame the topics and the meaning of philosophical terminology relating to moral philosophy and philosophy of religion in general and in the age of German Idealism and to acquire its foundations from textual reading; to understand philosophical texts and to be able to analyze their internal coherence; to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in seminar mode, students will in fact be encouraged to apply elements of knowledge gained working on the text on targeted problems, to formulate and compare hypotheses and verify them through a comparison of opinions. The constant confrontation on the themes dealt with in the general exposition of the text and the discussion in the seminars are intended to promote and refine the ability to expose themes of philosophy of religion with appropriate language and critical capacity.

The student will also become familiar with the technical vocabulary of Jewish religion and philosophy, and will be able to identify the main literature on the subject. Other objectives are the following: understanding of the importance of the Jews as cultural intermediaries and translators of Arabic philosophical literature into Hebrew and Latin; ability to orient oneself with respect to different linguistic and historical milieus; enhancing critical awareness of the past through the understanding of the “Jewish contribution to civilization”.

The course provides a critical introduction to contemporary philosophy of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its fundamental concepts, with a particular focus on its connection to philosophy of mind and cognitive sciences. The course aims to achieve the following objectives: acquisition of key notions and main themes of the philosophy of AI, understanding of the main philosophical questions surrounding AI, mastery of an adequate philosophical vocabulary, development of personal argumentative skills, ability to establish conceptual links between the technological and philosophical fields.

d) stimulation of individual research courses in the footsteps of the issues discussed during the lectures or of the bibliographical references.

Students are expected to acquire a good knowledge of the main lines of early modern history through an active and lively participation in the lessons, thanks also to an accurate reading of the texts indicated in the bibliography. Special attention will be given to the enhancement of critical attitudes and to the student’s skill of communicating the acquired knowledge.

Acquisition of various key concepts in Philosophical Anthropology; the ability to theoretically contextualise philosophical texts and their place in contemporary debate. In addition, students will be expected to display critical reading skills, to master specialist philosophical vocabulary, and develop their own arguments.

Given for granted some basic and indispensable goals (knowledge and understanding in the field of studies; ability to apply knowledge and understanding; capability of critical analysis; communication skills on that which has been learned; capacity to undertake further studies with some autonomy), the course intends to attain the following specific objectives: knowledge of key notions of philosophy of religion by means of an analysis of some classics of the discipline; improvement of: capacity of critical reading and historical-theoretical framing of philosophical texts; mastery of philosophical terminology in oral and written communication; argumentative skills.
