Educational objectives At the end of the course the student acquires advanced research tools in the history of dance having worked in class mainly on direct sources. The activities carried out to increase critical skills are: a) the writing of brief papers on dance topics b) participation in dance workshops led by professional dancers and choreographers. Skills in communication are experienced through writing and video reports. At the end of the course the student will have acquired autonomous study skills thanks to: 1) a better knowledge of historical sources about dance, their availability in libraries and archives 2) the ability to relate these sources to the cultural and historical background that produced them. | |||||

Educational objectives The course proposes to analyze the figurative representations of music between Renaissance and Baroque, with particular attention to the role of Caravaggio painting from the end of the Sixteenth century. From the first representations of classical culture to Cesare Ripa's Iconology published in 1593, the variations of the musical themes are illustrated in famous paintings. Allegorical figurative cycles are documented by the paintings of a musical subject created form Caravaggio to his followers.
