Educational objectives The course Complementi di Elettromagnetismo per l’Ingegneria Elettrica aims to deepen the notions of electrostatics and magnetostatics acquired in basic physics courses, going beyond both the topics and the mathematical techniques.
As a result of learning, students are expected to acquire the ability to calculate electric and magnetic fields and potentials in a variety of configurations using advanced analytical techniques. In particular, students are expected to become familiar with the Sturm-Liouville problems for differential operators, with various types of orthogonal function systems (sinusoidal functions, Bessel functions, Legendre functions, spherical harmonics), with the method of separation of variables (to reduce partial differential equations of the second order to ordinary differential equations), with the Green function method for the solution of nonhomogeneous differential equations and with the Fourier transform method for the solution of partial differential equations.
