Objectives
The Multimedia Design Studio aims to provide theoretical / critical and technical tools to allow the student to deal with the project of complex artefacts and / or systems of artefacts in the context of Multimedia Design and specifically Multimedia Publishing, of Videomaking, Immersive and Augmented Realities at the service of cultural heritage. The laboratory intends to offer methodical stimuli and reflections on new techniques of visual communication, to provide knowledge on languages, strategic planning and techniques of multimedia and interactive communication, in the aforementioned areas. On the one hand, therefore, a vision of the state of the art and perspectives on the most advanced experiments in Multimedia Publishing, in the design of Videos and Immersive and Augmented Realities will be offered, on the other hand more advanced skills relating to interaction will be provided. design in virtual environments. At the end of the workshop the student must have acquired knowledge and understanding skills, as well as skills that allow to support the creation of one or more multimedia communication projects, from concept to implementation, passing through strategic planning. The Laboratory consists of a guide module of "Multimedia Design", with a theoretical / critical component on the culture of the Multimedia Design project and an experimental application component; and a module "Immersive environments" which aims to help students in the development of interactive and multisensory experiential scenarios. These skills will be verified in the context of experimental and design activities, through exercises, and through the final exam.
MULTIMEDIA DESIGN
Specific objectives: The course has the main objective of making the student acquire specific knowledge in the context of the culture of multimedia and interactive communication artefacts, based on the dynamic relationship between texts / signs and images. The course must therefore provide the methodological tools to know and understand and develop projects in the field of Multimedia Design and specifically Multimedia Publishing, Video, Immersive and Augmented Realities. The course aims to provide students with the acquisition of the use of multimedia tools, through a theoretical and practical path, necessary for the design / realization of multimedia design objects and to promote an aptitude for transversal design suitable for the contemporary complexity of the communication and use needs. Areas that are intertwined with other disciplines and require both theoretical and critical knowledge, as well as technical. To achieve this objective, significant case studies for the various phenomena and cultural contexts that generated them must be analyzed and multimedia applicative tools acquired. At the end of the course the student must have acquired knowledge and understanding skills, as well as skills that allow to support, from a theoretical-methodological point of view, the implementation of projects of artefacts and / or systems of artefacts in the field of Multimedia Design and specifically of Multimedia Publishing, Videos, Immersive and Augmented Realities; demonstrate the mastery of an integrated experimental and analytical-design approach for finalizing the knowledge and understanding acquired, to solve complex problems as well as being able to communicate what has been acquired in an effective and innovative way. The knowledge will also be verified through the exam itself and through exercises and tests in itinere.
IMMERSIVE ENVIROMENTS
Specific objectives: The objective of the course is providing advanced knowledge on the principles, basic methods and techniques for building interactive virtual products in semi-realistic environments. Each of these examined aspects will be presented both theoretically and practically respectively presenting a theoretical context framework and a set of tools required for implementation in the real world. The module therefore aims to develop the practical use of software such as Unity, an engine for creating virtual spaces and immersive environments. Tools such as sensors (for example kinect or motion detectors) will also be used and notions on cloud platforms will be introduced. At the end of the module the student will have to demonstrate the ability to acquire knowledge and experience, to evaluate and re-elaborate them for the purpose of forming an autonomous and original judgment. In particular, the student must demonstrate skills in autonomous management and design, aware of the problems associated with the new contexts of Multimedia Publishing, Video, Immersive and Augmented Realities, with the aim of providing innovative and sustainable solutions, as well as being able to communicate them in an effective and innovative way. The knowledge will also be verified through the exam itself and through exercises and tests in itinere.

Contents, themes and phases Multimedia Design II
In relation to specific objectives, the Multimedia Design course, 6 cfu, 48 hours, proposes design themes dedicated to the creation of multimedia products for museum communication, relating to important museum institutions in the city of Rome. The contents include issues related to multimedia design with the acquisition of specific audio-visual techniques, the evolution of visual culture from photography to moving images, to the latest multimedia experiments.
The acquisition of this knowledge aims to enhance the cultural heritage, with particular attention to communication in the museum environment. The design approach is transversal, functional to create synergies between multimedia products, museum studies, visual and performing arts. The project results, also in the use of historical and social methods, will lead to a new interpretation of the museum sites, making a synthesis between the different disciplines and collective needs. The design experiments involve the elaboration of a concept and their development starting from the performative relationship of the body with the museum spaces, including artistic activities such as dance and performances. The concept, conceived starting from creative methods and methodologies typical of design, from the study of projects and relevant achievements; it will have to be realized in detail considering the different proposed contributions.
The achievement of the final result is divided into the following phases:
STEP 1: 24 hours
Theoretical lessons (12 hours) and in-depth and workshop activities (12 hours)
The first phase is dedicated to the study, research and development of the project theme. This phase includes theoretical lessons dedicated to visual and multimedia culture, museum communication and the main audio-video techniques. There will be visits to museum institutions in the city of Rome and meetings with specialists and art historians. At the end of the first phase, students must present a design concept of a multimedia product, considering the different disciplinary contributions.
STEP 2: 24 hours
Theoretical lessons (4 hours) and laboratory activities (20 hours):
The second phase is dedicated to the development and realization of the multimedia product defined in all its visual, aesthetic, functional and conceptual characteristics. In parallel, students will have to develop a book consisting of a theoretical and research part and an explanatory part of the design activity.

The methods (traditional, remote) depend on the University directives concerning the Covid 19 pandemic.
The teaching methods adopted are a combination of several models: lectures, case analysis, exercises, seminars, group work, preparation of papers and / or research, laboratory activities. The main course of teaching is the project that is developed by the students, divided into groups, especially in the classroom. During the workshop activities, the students are constantly followed by the teacher: the progress status of the project is therefore monitored throughout the training process. The coherence between objectives and teaching methods is identified in the articulation of teaching methods and theoretical activities and above all dedicated to know-how.
