Objectives
The student is expected to acquire knowledge of the cultural and social dynamics that characterize the history of writing in the Latin alphabet from antiquity to the modern age and the ability to contextualize correctly the various graphic phenomena. The student will be able to investigate a manuscript source even in the complex relationships between writing and transmitting the text, connecting the specific knowledge acquired with those of other disciplinary fields. Thanks to classroom exercises the student will also learn to recognize, locate, date and read Western handwriting up until the 16th century.
