The module aims to provide a knowledge of the main methods of investigation in the history of the Italian language through individual research topics. At the end of the course the student must demonstrate: a) to have developed a first autonomous research capacity in a historical-linguistic context; b) to use in an appropriate and critical way the bibliography; c) to know how to adequately transmit the results of his research.

Module: METHODS AND PROBLEMS OF ITALIAN LINGUISTICS I A
The aim of the course is to give master's degree students the opportunity to explore a research topic relevant to the history of the Italian language and of high methodological value. The teaching objectives therefore include: the ability to consult and use the most important tools available for the study of ancient and modern language; strengthening of the language of the discipline; the ability to use the Historical Grammar as a privileged method of access to the linguistic analysis of texts (in verse or prose, ancient or modern); acquisition of the ability to analyse the language of a text (in verse or prose, ancient or modern) independently.

Module: METHODS AND PROBLEMS OF ITALIAN LINGUISTICS I A
The course presupposes a basic knowledge of Latin and the notions in Italian linguistics, as well as historical grammar. To make up for any gaps, prior study of the following textbooks is strongly recommended:

- C. Marazzini, La lingua italiana. Profilo storico, Bologna, il Mulino, 2002, chapters V-XIV.
- L. Serianni, Lezioni di grammatica storica italiana, Rome, Bulzoni, 1998

Students whose mother tongue is not Italian (Erasmus project, bilateral traineeships, etc.) as well as those who have never taken examinations in the field of Italian linguistics (sector L-FIL-LET-12) should contact the professor to agree on a personalised programme.

Module: METHODS AND PROBLEMS OF ITALIAN LINGUISTICS I A
The aim of the course is to give master's degree students the opportunity to explore a research topic relevant to the history of the Italian language and of high methodological value. For this reason, after an initial illustration phase of the topic, the course will follow a seminar-type approach. The specific theme on which the in-depth study will focus will be: "Studio linguistico del manoscritto autografo del Teseida di Boccaccio".

Module: METHODS AND PROBLEMS OF ITALIAN LINGUISTICS I A
The course is the second part of the main course of Metodi e problemi di linguistica italiana ( "La poesia del Due e Trecento: studio di due manoscritti" 12 CFU) started in the first semester. This course will take place in the second semester and will consist of 21 lectures for a total of 42 hours. The first lessons will be face-to-face, while in the text analysis phase an active involvement of the classroom is envisaged: the students, probably divided into groups, will hold seminars on topics related to the course and agreed upon with the professor.

In order to pass the examination, an overall mark of not less than 18/30 must be achieved. In order to obtain a pass mark, the student must demonstrate that he/she has acquired a basic knowledge of the course content. In order to obtain a pass mark (30 cum laude), the student must be able to confidently explain the topics covered, using appropriate terminology, and must also demonstrate that he/she is able to connect the different parts of the programme coherently, logically and independently.
