The teaching of Dante Philology aims to transmit to the student the knowledge of the life and works of Dante Alighieri from the historical, textual and historical-linguistic point of view and to discuss the main problems relating to the edition of texts, to research sources and commentary.

The course aims to study the reception of Dante's 'Commedia' in relation to the history of the idea of hell.

Knowledge of the fundamental notions relating to the life and work of Dante Alighieri is considered essential.

The teaching will be mainly frontal, with analysis and reading of the main twentieth-century critical contributions on the life and works of Dante Alighieri and the writings of Thomas Stearns Eliot, Osip Ėmil'evič Mandel'štam and Jorge Luis Borges.

Constant attendance at lessons is strongly recommended.

The oral exam will verify the knowledge of the main twentieth-century critical contributions on the life and works of Dante Alighieri and in particular of the writings of Thomas Stearns Eliot, Osip Ėmil'evič Mandel'štam and Jorge Luis Borges.

The questions are designed to test knowledge about the reception of Dante's 'Commedia' in relation to the history of the idea of hell.
