Students will know the scientific literature on the topics dealt with and will be able to comment on it critically;
They will be able to formulate hypotheses pertaining to Germanic philology on the basis of the acquired analytical concepts and tools;
They will be able to integrate their new knowledge with the previous ones in order to face the theoretical and practical complexity of acquired concepts;
They will also manage to communicate knowledge entering in discussion with specialists of Germanic philological studies and with non-specialists.
They will lastly be able to study self-managed or autonomous topics proposed during the course and will be encouraged to cultivate their own scientific interests independently.

After attending the advanced course, students are expected to be able to deal with the proposed topics in more depth and also critically elaborate on them, as for linguistic, textual, and literary aspects

After a quick overview of the basics, the advanced course deals with more complex topics and problems. However, complete beginners are invited to contact the teacher to receive specific advice on their situation, and possibly attend the introductory course.

The advanced course aims to resume and enrich previously acquired knowledge with the deepening of the development of one or more ancient Germanic areas, by reading, analyzing and translating texts from one or more Old Germanic languages.

All bibliographocal material will be indicated and/or provided during the course.

Frontal lessons with presentation and discussion of topics also with slideshows or other (multi-medial or traditional) tools (later made available for individual study). Students intervention and questions are strongly encouraged and may stimulate further discussions.At times, participants may be required to actively participate in the lessons.

Classes take place usually in-person. Atlhough attendance is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended.

Individual oral exam (min. 15/20 minutes) with questions on any parts in the program. Besides knowledge of the topics, also communicative skills, usage of the subject terminology and the ability to elaborate on the topics of the course are evaluated. A larger part of the test will concern textual analysis and commentary.

NOT NECESSARY
