Knowledge and understanding: the course aims to provide students with the tools that allow them to understand the fundamentals of the Italian public law, taking the Republican Constitution as an essential point of reference; since the teaching is aimed at students of an economics course, the theme of social rights will be object of particular attention during the lessons and for the purpose of the exam.
Applying knowledge and understanding: the course aims to provide students with the tools that allow them to read and understand in its fundamental elements a normative text, a judicial decision or an administrative measure, as well as to solve in its fundamental elements the legal issues underlying these acts.
Making judgements: The course aims to develop in students an autonomous judgment capability on the foundations of the Italian public law, in a historical, theoretical, critical and comparative perspective.
Communication skills: The course aims to develop in students the attitude to legal reasoning and the ability to argue on the foundations of the Italian public law.
Learning skills: The course aims to enable students to continue their studies and, in particular, to face the other courses of the disciplinary legal field thanks to the knowledge of the foundations of the Italian public law.

The teaching course aims mainlyat grasping the fundamental notions and concepts of public law at large. These are examined and evaluated in relation both to the legal system and to the structure of authorities' organization within the State. To this very purpose the overall functioning of the entire legai machinery will be focused upon, drawing both on the law making process and on the existing relations between politicai bodies, among themselves as well as with society on the whole, particularly in the tight of their actual development and future implications within the EU context.

By means of sharp analysis of the many facets which are to be addressed to within the teaching course, and as a result of the thorough examination which will be conducted of a number of selected cases and materials considered of relevance as a viable leaming support according to the circumstances, successful students will acquire the basic knowledge (both theoretical and practical) of the Italian public law system, also managing to grasp its unrevealed implications in a constantly changing society.

Course’s programme and purposes
The main purpose of the course is to put students into the knowledge of fundamental notions of legal rule and legal system, besides most important notions of the constitutional process, of the constitutional state and of legal instruments and procedures which rule the relation between citizens and the State, also in the view of transformations of public authorities’ power and instruments, due to the participation of national States to supranational and international legal systems and to the world’s economy enormous transformation. Main topics will be: legal rule, legal system, political power, the State, sovereignty, citizenship, system of government, political representation, federal systems, regional systems, Regions and local government, European Union and the different phases of the integration process, constitutional organization, Government, Parliament, President of the Republic, sources of law, the Constitution, fundamental rights and freedoms between national and supranational legal systems, the Constitutional Court.
Part of the course is focused on “Public law and economics”, in other words on the analysis of the main topics concerning the Italian and European “economic constitution”, the relation between law and economics, the market and the welfare state; the evolution of the role of the state towards the economy, the main principles of the regulation process. In particular the sectors of antitrust rules, financial and banking system, pulic goods markets will be deeply investigated.
