Following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL), this course aims to enable students to develop their English language skills, and to bring them to a significant level of communicative competence accordingly. Particular reference is devoted to the Language for Specific Purposes (LSP), for participants are expected to familiarise with the English language related to their field of study.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:
-understand and use frequently used everyday expressions
-interact in simple and routine situations requiring a direct exchange of information
-describe in simple terms aspects of their personal life, environment, and immediate needs
-produce short written texts on familiar topics
-understand the main idea of short, clear texts and dialogues

Students are expected to have a basic knowledge of Italian corresponding to CEFR Level A1:
-basic literacy in Italian
-ability to understand and produce simple sentences
-knowledge of essential everyday vocabulary

The course develops A2-level communicative competence through the following areas:
-Grammar: nouns (gender and number),present tenses, introduction to past tenses (passato prossimo, basic imperfect usage), pronouns, prepositions, possessive adjectives, basic future tenses.
-Vocabulary: daily life, family, studies, leisure time, travel, city life
-Oral communication: introducing oneself, asking for information, describing routines and experiences
-Listening and reading comprehension: short texts, dialogues, announcements
-Written production: short messages, simple emails, brief descriptions

The textbook is recommended. The teacher will provide the study material at each lesson and will upload it to the shared Classroom.

The course is delivered through:

-role-plays simulating real-life situations

Final evaluation is based on:
-written exam (reading comprehension + multiple-choice questions)

The final assessment is based on a written exam consisting of 45 multiple-choice questions covering reading comprehension, grammar, and the communicative functions addressed during the course. In addition to these 45 questions, there is a short reading comprehension section with 5 open-ended questions based on the text.
To pass the exam, students must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the grammatical topics covered, a basic knowledge of vocabulary related to everyday life and family, and the ability to understand the main idea of clear texts and short dialogues at the A2 level. Incorrect answers do not result in point deductions. Each correct answer is worth 1 point. To obtain a passing grade, students must answer at least 30 out of 50 questions correctly (corresponding to 60% of the exam).
