Student will experiment with methods and tools of field research and survey in order to define critical approaches in knowledge and representation of the territory

The activity aims to provide students with the tools to investigate the natural and semi-natural component of the landscape through the observation of vegetation.
Physiognomic and phenological observation tools are proposed which require very basic biological skills of vegetation (herbaceous, shrubby, arboreal physiognomies, evergreen, deciduous species, seasonal cycles) which make it possible to integrate the analyses carried out through geographic information systems in order to understand the current characteristics and the vocation of the territory.
Tools are provided for understanding the influences of environmental characteristics, past and present anthropic activities, and for identifying potential ongoing processes and the evolution of vegetation and landscape.

No prerequisites

The activity consists of 3 credits with commitment divided as follows:
• two introductory classroom lessons (two hours each),
• two half-day outings (3 hours each),
• a full day outing (9 hours),
• a final lesson (two hours).
Closing activity: In the closing lesson, each student will present to the class in the form of a two-page presentation a comment relating to a plant species observed (and photographed) in a site where it grows spontaneously, explaining what the ecological, natural and/or or anthropic that have determined its presence in that specific site. The chosen species may have been observed during outings carried out together or individually.

Please describe the ecological requirements and adaptations of a species observed during the excursions or in your personal experience. Each student will select a species on his/her own
