Profile: Landscape Architect
Functions: The Landscape Architect can work in private practices, either individually or as member of broader planning groups, also in high-responsibility roles, such as coordinator of work groups. Architects can work autonomously or within public and private institutions and firms, operating in the fields of transformation and conservation of landscape, as well as in companies of design and promotion.  
Competences: List of career opportunities and related functions, for which the Masters Degree provides specific competences: 

a) LANDSCAPE DESIGN, with competences in: legislation of reference, instruments to design parks, gardens and green spaces, in a variety of scales; design of private and public green spaces, open spaces, gardens and parks, suspended and vertical green, open-air exhibitions, archaeological areas, botanical gardens, cemeteries, golf courses, areas external to touristic and sport complexes, coastal and fluvial settlements; Direction of construction landscape sites; definition of the processes of management and maintenance; assessment of the botanic and agronomic features of decorative plants; their evolutionary dynamic and maintenance; 

b) CONSERVATION OF HISTORICAL PARKS AND GARDENS with the exclusion of building construction components, with competencies in: re-development of neglected landscapes; activities linked to preservation, conservation and re-development of: parks, gardens and historical landscape, the work of documentary and cartographic archive analysis; the definition of methodologies for the conservation of historical garden; botany and pathology of decorative plants, and their recovery and maintenance, management and enhancement plans;

c) DRAFT OF LANDSCAPE PLANS, with competencies in: activities of landscape design, by drafting landscape plans; the national and regional legislation on landscape plans; methods and instruments for the analysis and transformation of landscape; legislation of the sector; procedures of the legislation on Italian urban design, and of the methods and instruments of assessment of plans and projects, in a variety of scales.

d) LANDSCAPE ANALYSIS AND CONSULTATION IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL-LANDSCAPE FIELD, in the sectors of landscape re-development, including neglected areas, the prevention of risks, the landscape insertion of infrastructural networks,  landscape analysis and assessment, and studies on the environmental impact of agrotourism and farm tourism, environment defence, rural territory design, with competencies in: legislation and methodology of each sector; evaluative analysis of landscape, consultation of landscape-territorial plans, plans of green areas, geographical, cultural and social contexts;

e) VALUATION, CADASTRAL, TOPOGRAPHIC AND CARTOGRAPHIC ACTIVITIES, with competencies in: legislation and methodologies related to territorial and rural valuation; methods and instruments of topographic survey and cartographic representation of landscape;

f) MEMBER IN COUNCIL COMMITTEES ON LANDSCAPE (DM 42/2004 and s.m.i.), with competencies in: legislation of the sector; procedures and instruments of Italian urban design, and methods and instruments to assess plans and projects;

g) PLANNING OF ELEMENTS related to landscape, agricultural, forestry and environmental systems, with competencies in: the legislation of the sector; agricultural and forestry systems, and their environmental implications; methods and instruments of analysis and intervention; 

h) ENVIRONMENTAL CERTIFICATION OF LANDSCAPE INTERVENTION and of quality of vegetal and forestry productions, with competencies in: quality systems and legislation on environmental assessment and certification, in the agronomic and forestry sectors; legislation on the assessment of the environmental impact of interventions of landscape-territorial transformation, and of the insertion in the landscape of civil, industrial and infrastructural complexes; 

i) COORDINATION AND DIRECTION OF ACTIVITIES, with relation to the tasks established by the European Landscape Convention (L. 1/09/2006) and by the Code of the Cultural and Landscape Heritage (DM 42/2004 and s.m.i.), with competencies in: legislation of the sector; promotion and direction of Landscape Observatories; methods and instruments for the conservation and management of landscape;

l) COORDINATION AND DIRECTION OF ACTIVITIES OF PLANNING, CONSULTATION AND RESEARCH, on landscape preservation and transformation interventions, with competencies in: national and European legislation on landscape; methods and instruments of landscape intervention; managerial aspects and of strategic planning; theories and methods of landscape planning, design and management, scientific issues related to innovative landscape technologies, to the defense of landscape, dynamics of agricultural and forestry ecosystems, and methods and instruments for the conservation and enhancement of biodiversity. 

Career Prospects: the Landscape Architect can exercise the described activities in private practice or as a consultant, within design, planning or management processes promoted in the public or private sphere. Graduates can also work as Officials or Directors in public institutions of planning and control, or in private companies operating in the fields of landscape design and promotion. 

Further career opportunities are represented by the pursuit of third level formation, PhDs and Specialization Schools.
Graduates who have a sufficient number of ECTSs in the SSDs established by the current legislation, can apply to admission tests for secondary teaching training.  

The Study Course allows graduates to access the Professional Association of Architects, Planners, Landscape Designers, and Conservators (OAPPC), Section A, sector C (landscape); this is subject to the passing of the related Bar Exam(Esame di Stato). It allows, furthermore, the admission to the Bar Exam (Esame di Stato)to register to the Section A of the Association of Agronomist and Forestry Doctors (ibidem, art. 12, c. 2 ).

Sono previsti incontri periodici con le parti sociali con periodicità annuale.
Entro i prossimi sei mesi sarà, inoltre, costituito un Comitato di indirizzo, con il compito di tenere i rapporti con le parti sociali e di organizzare gli incontri periodici.
