Regulations for the Path of Excellence of the Degree Course in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology

(Class LM-13)

The Degree Programme in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology establishes a Path of Excellence for the Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology (Class LM-13), with the aim of enhancing the training of worthy and interested students providing in-depth studies and cultural integration.

The path offers additional training activities to those of the degree course to which the student is enrolled, consisting of in-depth disciplinary and interdisciplinary studies and seminar activities according to a programme that will be personalized and agreed with each individual student.

Students who have obtained access to the Path of Excellence are entrusted to a teacher or tutor who guides them in their study path and collaborates in the organization and establishment of their activities for a maximum commitment of 200 hours per year.

art. 1 - Cycles:

Each cycle of the Path of Excellence lasts two years and involves students of the fourth and fifth year of the degree course in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology.

art. 2 - Places available:

The number of places available for the Path of Excellence is established year by year by the Degree Programme Profile in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology and made known by public notice on the course website, before the publication of the call for applications for the procedure.

art. 3 - Access requirements:

Access to the Path of Excellence through an application in accordance with the terms and procedures indicated in the relevant announcement.

The requirements are:

a) acquisition, by October 31, of all University ECTS Credits foreseen in the first three years;

b) achievement of an average exam score of not less than twenty-seven / thirty (27/30).

art. 5 - Activities

The students admitted to the Path of Excellence, in the two-year course, will study one or more topics that they have chosen according to their specific interests, under the guidance of their course teacher, producing a final report (.doc or .ppt) related to this study. In particular, their studies can be organized in two modules:

Module one: Acquisition, under the guidance of a tutor, of the skills necessary to carry out a bibliographic research aimed at the drafting a scientific article and an experimental degree dissertation. These skills will be acquired through the study and analysis of scientific articles, published in peer-review journals with a high impact factor and related to the subject of scientific research.

Module two: Acquisition, under the guidance of a tutor, of the methodologies and tools needed to conduct an experimental scientific study, with an in-depth study of the problems related to the relative basic research,  which will be normally different from the one where the student is doing for the experimental dissertation. The reference tutor will provide students with the information necessary to identify the most correct methodology to be used for their experimental scientific study, also through brief exercises regarding the use of suitable instruments available in the research laboratories.

Students on request can do part of the Path of Excellence at another Italian or foreign University, Higher Education Institute or Research Organization.

Erasmus students who carry out a part of their studies at a foreign University and have access to the Path of Excellence will be able to participate in the Path of Excellence at the foreign institution.

art 5 - Intermediate assessment

In order to be able to continue on the Path of Excellence, students must acquire all the ECTS credits foreseen for the academic year of attendance by 30 November with an average total score of not less than twenty seven / thirty (27/30). The assessment of the aforementioned requisites is carried out, at the end of each academic year, by the Degree Programme Committee in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology following a report by the reference teacher.

art. 6 - Final assessment/certificate

In order to successfully complete the path of excellence, students, in addition to having carried out the activities foreseen in the Path of Excellence, must have acquired by 30 November of the academic year of reference all the university ECTS credits foreseen in the fifth year and must have obtained an overall average score of not less than 27/30. At the moment of the final degree exam, students who have completed their Path of Excellence will receive a certificate of the course, issued by the Presidency of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medicine, together with the other types of certification, which will be registered as part of their academic career.

Together with this certification, the University grants students an award which is equal to the amount of the fees paid in the last year of the course.

The terms and conditions regarding participation in the path of excellence programme will be indicated on the website of the degree course, where you can also view the announcement of the call and download a copy of the application form.
