The Degree Courses in Medicine and Surgery (CLMMC) are divided into six years and are established within the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.
In order to achieve the educational objectives, the single-cycle masters degree programme foresees a total of 360 ECTS credits, divided into the six years of the course, of which at least 60 are acquired in training activities aimed at developing specific professional skills.
The course is organized in 12 semesters and 36 integrated courses, which are assigned specific ECTS credits by the Council of the educational structure in accordance with the provisions laid out in the table of essential training activities. Each ECTS credit corresponds to a 25-hour student commitment, of which normally no more than 12 hours of frontal lessons, or 20 hours of assisted study within the educational structure. Each professional ECTS credit corresponds to 25 hours of work per student, of which 20 hours of professional activity with teacher guidance in small groups within the educational structure or externally and 5 hours of individual revision regarding the activities studied.
The Council of the teaching structure establishes in the “Study Manifesto”, which determines the articulation in integrated courses, semesters, the relative ECTS credits, the "core curriculum" and the learning objectives (including those related to the ECTS credits gained through professional training activities) specific to each integrated course, and the type of exam assessment. The exams (a maximum of 36) are programmed by the competent Council of the teaching structure during the periods when there are no frontal teaching activities. On passing these exams, students can acquire the corresponding ECTS credits.

The ongoing tests are designed to measure the effectiveness of learning and teaching processes in relation to certain contents:
• ongoing non-compulsory tests (non idoneative), when organized, have no certification value, are not compulsory for the students but do not exempt students preparing the entire contents of the Integrated Course in the examination. In fact, they simply serve as an indication to students of their preparation.
• the ongoing pass/fail tests (idoneative), organized at the end of one of the course semesters, can be optionally taken by the students. The tests measure the level of preparation concerning the programme carried out during that semester. The result is then registered in a special diary-booklet with scores expressed in thirtieths and, if the exam is passed, any new assessment is no longer necessary. Students, however, are required to demonstrate during the exam knowledge of the topics of the oral test through the use of references or citations.
The Path of Excellence is an integrative course, included in the regular course, which focuses on translational scientific research, and which consists of interdisciplinary seminar activities and apprenticeships aimed at enhancing the talent of students who, during their first three years of their Masters Degree, have shown a propensity to reprocess their acquired knowledge constructively and originally.
