General Objective
The internship aims to introduce the student to professional nursing practice, fostering the acquisition of basic knowledge and skills to recognize patient care needs and the main clinical-assistive problems, collaborating in their management under supervision.
It also promotes a holistic approach to the person, integrating preventive, diagnostic, assistive, and rehabilitative aspects, in line with evidence-based practice and patient-centered care principles.
Specific objectives and Understanding
• Understand basic principles of hygiene, infection control, patient safety, and universal precautions.
• Recognize normal and abnormal vital signs and common clinical symptoms (e.g., dyspnea, pain, nausea, syncope).
• Know basic nursing procedures, including hygiene, mobilization, bed making, waste management, and oxygen therapy.
• Understand the rationale for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (ECG, HGT, blood sampling, drug administration).
Applying Knowledge and Understanding
• Respond to patient call systems and provide timely assistance.
• Perform hand hygiene, patient hygiene, and bed making (with or without patient) correctly.
• Measure and record vital signs accurately; position patients appropriately.
• Administer medications, subcutaneous and intravenous therapy under supervision; manage oxygen therapy.
• Carry out basic diagnostic procedures (ECG, HGT, blood sampling) safely.
Judgement and Decision-Making
• Assess patient condition and identify priority needs.
• Recognize clinical risks and act appropriately under supervision.
• Apply ethical and professional principles in patient care.
Communication Skills
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Document observations and procedures accurately.

• Reflect on clinical experiences to improve competence and autonomy.
• Integrate theoretical knowledge with practical skills.
• Develop self-directed learning strategies and adapt procedures to different clinical contexts.

To be admitted to the exam, the student must provide the internship attendance of 390 hours as well as the Internship Assessments paper (one for each ward experience).

• Respond to the call system
• Perform hand washing
• Perform measuring of vital parameters (PA, FC, TC, FR, PAIN)
• Perform Bed making without/ with patient
• Waste management
• Positioning the patients (Semi fowler, Trendelemburg, Lateral positioning)
• Use the correct PPD in the isolation room and universal precaution
• Perform patient hygiene
• Perform ECG
• Perform HGT
• Recognise principal symptoms and take the vital parameters when is necessary (Dyspnea, pain, nausea, syncope, diarrhea, constipation, faint)
• Collecting blood samples
• Preparation and administration of drug under supervision of the tutor
• Manage Oxygen therapy (Ventimask and Nasal Cannula)

The internship is divided into modules linked to the theoretical path that takes place during both semesters.
According to the students' attitude, preferences and available tutors, students will be placed and supported in different internship experiences until the total number of hours is reached.

Mandatory in-person attendance

The assessment will consist of a written test and a practice test, both of which will cover all topics, procedures, and nursing activities included in the programme.
If the reported evaluation is less than sufficient, the student will be evaluated by CPD and might be assigned for further internship experience until the nursing objectives are achieved.
