General Objective
The Internship II aims to consolidate and expand the student’s theoretical, practical, and relational competencies, promoting increasing autonomy and responsibility in managing nursing care within moderately complex clinical settings.
The learning experience fosters the integration of theoretical knowledge with clinical practice, supporting the student’s ability to plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions in accordance with ethical principles, safety standards, and a person-centred approach to care.
Specific Objectives
Knowledge and Understanding
• Deepen theoretical and operational principles related to the management of peripheral and central venous access, infusion therapy, and oxygen administration.
• Acquire knowledge of basic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (electrocardiogram, blood sampling, drug and blood component administration).
• Understand the principles of clinical risk prevention (falls, healthcare-associated infections) and wound management.
• Recognize the main aspects of nursing care for people with chronic and degenerative diseases (e.g., diabetes and diabetic foot), as well as in maternal, child, and palliative care settings.
Applying Knowledge and Understanding
• Safely perform complex nursing procedures (venous access, infusion therapies, wound care, blood sampling, and medication administration) under supervision.
• Collaborate in the preparation and assistance of patients undergoing diagnostic examinations and invasive procedures.
• Apply prevention strategies for fall risk and other care-related complications.
• Accurately manage nursing documentation and communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

• Identify and interpret patient care needs, recognizing priorities and early signs of clinical risk.
• Make informed care decisions based on scientific evidence and best practice guidelines.
• Demonstrate ethical awareness and professional accountability in all aspects of patient care.

• Accurately document clinical observations and nursing procedures.

To be admitted to the exam, the student must provide the internship attendance of 690 hours as well as the Internship Assessments paper (one for each ward experience).

Positioning and managing a peripheral venous access
Managing central venous access
Managing digital infusion pumps, flow regulators and elastomers
Performing an electrocardiogram and recognizing the main electrocardiographic
abnormalities
Administering oxygen therapy
Managing the diabetic patient at risk or with a diabetic foot
Preventing fall risk
Blood Sampling and other procedure
Collecting samples to perform microbiological culture
Palliative Nursing care
Preparing, managing and monitoring the person undergoing diagnostic investigations
(radiological, ultrasound, endoscopic, scintigraphic, biopsy, etc.)
Preparing and assisting the patient undergoing endoscopic examinations
Preparing and assisting the person during exploratory procedures (paracentesis,
rachicentesis, thoracentesis, bone marrow sampling, liver biopsy)
Performing an arterial blood sample from a radial artery (Just Observe)
Elimination-excretion and Nutritional metabolic health pattern
Drugs administration and blood components administration

The internship is divided into modules linked to the theoretical path that takes place during both semesters.
According to the students' attitude, preferences and available tutors, students will be placed and supported in different internship experiences until the total number of hours is reached.

Mandatory in-person attendance

The assessment will consist of a written test covering all topics, procedures, and nursing activities included in the programme.
If the reported evaluation is less than sufficient, the student will be evaluated by CPD and might be assigned for further internship experience until the nursing objectives are achieved
