General Objectives
The Internship II aims to consolidate and expand the student’s theoretical, practical, technical, and relational competencies, guiding them toward autonomous and responsible management of nursing care in critical and specialized clinical settings.
The training experience promotes the integration of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, enhancing the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate complex nursing interventions while respecting ethical principles, patient safety, and person-centered care.
Specific Objectives
Knowledge and Understanding
• Deepen theoretical and operational principles of intraoperative and critical care nursing.
• Understand emergency and advanced life support procedures (BLS and ALS).
• Comprehend the management of traumatized patients and safety during the transfer/transport of critically ill patients.
• Learn procedures for managing vascular access and administering therapies in critically ill patients.
• Understand the principles of care and management for psychiatric patients.
Application of Knowledge and Understanding
• Safely perform complex nursing procedures (intraoperative support, BLS/ALS, vascular access management, therapy administration, wound care) under supervision.
• Collaborate in the preparation and care of patients undergoing invasive procedures, trauma management, or critical patient transfers.
• Apply emergency protocols and strategies to prevent clinical risks in critical settings.
• Correctly manage nursing documentation and communication within the multidisciplinary team.
Judgment Autonomy
• Identify and interpret complex care needs, prioritizing interventions and recognizing signs of clinical risk.
• Make evidence-based nursing decisions aligned with scientific knowledge and best practices.
• Apply ethical principles and professional responsibility in the care of critically ill and psychiatric patients.
Communication Skills
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team in critical and specialized settings.
• Accurately document procedures, interventions, and clinical observations.
• Participate in therapeutic relationships and provide educational support to patients and families.
Learning Skills
• Reflect critically on clinical experiences to develop autonomy and decision-making skills.
• Integrate theory and practice in nursing reasoning.
• Promote continuous learning and professional development in complex clinical contexts.

To be admitted to the exam, the student must provide the internship attendance of 720 hours, also the Internship Assessments paper (one for each ward experience).

The internship is divided into modules linked to the theoretical path that takes place during both semesters.
According to the students' attitude, preferences and available tutors, students will be placed and supported in different internship experiences until the total number of hours is reached.

Mandatory in-person attendance

The assessment will consist of a written test and a practice test, both of will cover all topics, procedures, and nursing activities included in the programme.
If the reported evaluation is less than sufficient, the student will be evaluated by CPD and might be assigned for further internship experience until the nursing objectives are achieved.
