Module objectives: By the end of the course, students should understand the main clinical topics and pathophysiological aspects of diseases; possess patient interaction skills and knowledge of clinical and instrumental diagnostics.

Module: RESPIRATORY SYSTEM DISEASES
Basic anatomy of the respiratory system. Chest wall and muscles, pleural cavity, lungs, upper and lower airways, mediastinum, ventilation regulation centers; Basic physiology of respiration; Ventilatory mechanics, gas exchange, pulmonary perfusion, ventilation/fusion ratio, diffusion.
Respiratory Failure: Definition; Pathophysiology; Diagnosis; Classification; Hypoxemia and Hypercapnia: Definition; Pathophysiological mechanisms; Signs and symptoms.
Oxyhemoglobin saturation curve: BLOOD GAS ANALYSIS
Main causes of respiratory failure: Reduced efficiency of the ventilatory pump; Airway/lung parenchymal disorders; Respiratory disorders - Signs and symptoms (definition-pathogenesis-clinical); Dyspnea; Cyanosis; Hemoptysis; Cough; Vomica; Dysphonia; Clinical pictures of respiratory diseases and treatment guidelines: Acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema; Acute non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema (ARDSS); Cardiac tamponade.
