Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the Integrated Course, students will be familiar with:
A) The pathophysiological mechanisms of the major cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, nephrological, hematological and oncological diseases;
B) The main symptoms and signs of these diseases;
C) The diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to follow (protocols, guidelines);
D) The principles of nursing care for patients with these diseases, considering any other comorbidities;
Prerequisites
Knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the organs and systems studied (cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, urinary, hematopoietic) and of the biological mechanisms underlying the development of cancer..
Programme
Module: ONCOLOGY
Morphology and characteristics of the neoplastic cell. Tumor monoclonality and heterogeneity. Tumor transformation and molecular mechanisms of alteration. Oncogenes and tumor suppressors. Other genes essential in the neoplastic transformation process include DNA repair genes, cell cycle genes, and apoptosis genes. Benign and malignant tumors: cellular characteristics of the tumor. Invasiveness. Metastasis. TNM. Tumor Immunology: Immunoediting theory. Oncological therapies: chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and immunotherapy.
Module: RESPIRATORY SYSTEM DISEASES
Respiratory failure. Obstructive respiratory diseases.
Major interstitial lung diseases. Infectious diseases of the respiratory system. Pulmonary tuberculosis.
Module: DISEASES OF CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM
Main signs and symptoms of heart disease;
Cardiovascular risk factor and the risk score
Principles of electrocardiography;
Arterial hypertension;
Valvular diseases;
Ischemic heart disease;
Heart failure;
Module: ENDOCRINOLOGY
Pathophysiology and clinical management of thyroid and growth disorders; pathophysiology and clinical management of metabolic diseases, with particular emphasis on obesity and glucose and lipid metabolism.
Pathophysiology and clinical management of adrenal gland diseases.
Module: NEFROLOGIA
Anatomy and physiology of the urinary system
Glomerulonephritis
Tubulointerstitial nephropathies
Vascular nephropathies
Metabolic nephropathies
Renal calculosis
Infectious renal diseases
Acute and chronic renal failure
Conservative and replacement therapy
Dialysis
