Legislative Decree no. 81 of 2008, also known as the "Consolidated Act on Health and Safety at Work," establishes the fundamental principles, rights, and duties related to the protection of workers' health and safety in the workplace. It defines prevention measures, organizational structures, and responsibilities for employers and employees.
Roles and Responsibilities of Prevention Figures
Employer (Datore di lavoro): Responsible for ensuring health and safety in the workplace, carrying out risk assessments, drafting the Risk Assessment Document (DVR), and appointing prevention and protection personnel.
Prevention and Protection Service Manager (RSPP): Assists the employer in identifying risks and planning prevention and protection measures.
Competent Doctor (Medico competente): Conducts health surveillance and evaluates the fitness of workers for their specific duties.
Workers’ Safety Representative (RLS): Represents workers on safety issues and promotes communication between workers and management.
Supervisors (Preposti): Ensure that safety procedures are respected and that workers apply the required preventive measures.
