Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
Know the different types of anesthetics used during surgical procedures and the supporting anesthesiological medical procedures;
Understand the basics of surgical emergency procedures to be used during operations on the following organs: small intestine, colon, rectum, and abdomen;
Understand the main rehabilitation techniques to be used during respiratory physiotherapy.
Prerequisites
Module: GENERAL SURGERY
Students should possess knowledge of anatomy, physiology and internal medicine.

Programme
Module: GENERAL SURGERY
1. Small intestine: outline of anatomy (duodenum, jejunum, ileum); physiology; intestinal occlusion; acute ischaemia of the superior mesenteric artery; intestinal infarction.
2. Colon rectum: anatomy; acute appendicitis, diverticular disease; Crohn's disease; ulcerative rectocolitis; toxic megacolon; polyps; polyposis; cancers of the colon rectum.
3. Ano: anatomy; haemorrhoids; anal fissures; perianal abscesses and fistulas;
4 Abdomen: peritonitis; abdominal trauma; acute and chronic abdominal pain (diagnostic framework); abdominal hernias; digestive haemorrhages; wounds; contusions
Module: ANESTESIOLOGIA
he patient candidate for invasive diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures: classification, evaluation, risk.
informed consent in medical procedures and in particular in procedures under anesthesia and anesthesiological support
anesthesia: types, modalities and techniques
resuscitation and anesthesia equipment. The anesthesia machine and circuits.
Cardiac arrest classification and basic and advanced rescue maneuvers of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology
Physiotherapy support to the critically ill post-surgical patient: importance and precautions
Trauma from crush syndrome
the how and the vegetative state
Module: TECHNICAL NURSING AND REHABILITATION SCIENCES
● General characteristics of patients in the critical care area particularly in their cardio-respiratory and neurological dysfunctions
● Study of thoracoabdominal biomechanics and in-depth study of related anatomy and physiology.
● assessment of patients in the critical care area through:
○ reading the clinical examinations in the patient's chart and evaluating them from a rehabilitation perspective. In particular study from a rehabilitation perspective of respiratory function tests and blood gas tests and hints on capnometry for rehabilitation purposes
○ assessment of changes in thoracoabdominal wall biomechanics caused by pathology or invasive therapies
○ reading radiodiagnostic examinations from a rehabilitation perspective
○ using tools for evaluation and monitoring of physiotherapy in the critical care area (pulse oximeter, phonendoscope, reading and monitoring of ventilatory profile,...)
● Setting up the treatment plan and choosing effective physiotherapy maneuvers for improving thoracic-pulmonary compliance, bronchial unblocking, and neuro-motor recovery taking into consideration the principle of individuality
● Methods of monitoring during respiratory physiotherapy and data collection
● Use of oxygen therapy. Methods of administration, evaluation of effectiveness and its weaning through respiratory physiotherapy
● Use of mechanical ventilation. Knowledge of the various types of ventilators, understanding of setting parameters and possible changes as progress in respiratory physiotherapy occurs. Itinerary for weaning from Mechanical Ventilation.
● step-by-step verification of results and adjustment of the rehabilitation program as the patient progresses
● final evaluation of the changes achieved
