Students will be able to describe the clinical picture, diagnostic tools, and the therapeutic approach to the main diseases affecting the central and peripheral nervous system. In detail, students will be able to describe the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to patients with peripheral neuropathies, inflammatory and infectious diseases of the nervous system, motor neuron disease, myopathies, and disorders of the state of consciousness.
At the end of the course, students will be able to describe the main internal medicine pathologies of the elderly patient and the rehabilitation approaches.

The course requires students to have knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the central and peripheral nervous system.

Module: INTERNAL MEDICINE
Geriatrics.
• From demographics to the service network.
• The elderly patient in rehabilitation.
• The frail elderly.
• Psychological profile and rehabilitation of the elderly: focus on depression.
• Rehabilitation approach to the main pathologies in geriatric age
• Falls and syncope. Fragility fractures: risk assessment, prevention strategies, and rehabilitation approach to femoral fractures.
• Ischemic heart disease and heart failure.
• Atrial fibrillation.
• Thromboembolic disease
• Malnutrition and sarcopenia in the elderly.
• Dementia and delirium: clinical pictures and psychosocial interventions.
• Elderly with cerebrovascular disease.
• Elderly with Parkinson's disease.
• Arterial hypertension in the elderly.
• Senile kidney disease and urinary incontinence.
• Immobilization Syndrome and Pressure Ulcer
