Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students have to acquire the basis for the understanding of the causes of diseases in humans, the basic pathophysiological and pathogenetic mechanisms of the cell, organs and systems. They have to know the base of pathology with particular reference to cardiovascular disease, CNS and respiratory. Students must know the fundamental aspects of general etiology, genetic and congenital diseases, cellular adaptations and mechanisms of injury, inflammation, repair processes, immunobiology and immunopathology, oncology. With regard to microbiology, students must acquire the fundamental principles of prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms and knowledge of human pathogenic microorganisms. They must also understand the mechanisms of host-parasite interaction, the body's defense mechanisms, and microbial resistance, with particular attention to clinical aspects. They must also acquire the skills to define the main hospital-acquired infections and their prevention methods.
Prerequisites
The prerequisites to follow the course are related to the knowledge related to chemistry, physics and biology acquired in the high school.

Lessons mode
The course takes place with lectures, with slide projection, in which students are required a continuous interaction by favouring questions on the topics discussed during the lesson.
Frequency
mandatory
Exam mode
Multiple choice written test. The student must demonstrate to have acquired a sufficient knowledge of the topics covered during the course.
To pass the exam, a grade of not less than 18/30 must be obtained in each module and the final grade of the entire course derives from the average of the marks obtained by the student in the individual modules.
Ongoing tests will be carried out.
Example exam questions
No example to indicate.
