Objectives
The integrated course aims to impart knowledge of the etiological bases and the fundamental pathogenic and physiopathological mechanisms of human diseases.
The integrated course also aims to enable the student to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the main immunological and immunopathological reactions.
The student acquires knowledge of the fundamentals of laboratory medicine, relating them to the physiopathological mechanisms of diseases.
Learning outcomes
Understand the fundamental pathophysiological processes underlying major diseases, with particular emphasis on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of damage, adaptation, and response to etiological agents.
Correlate pathological processes with laboratory analysis technologies, demonstrating the ability to identify, select, and apply appropriate diagnostic methodologies.
Comprehend the role of innovative technologies (such as sequencing or liquid biopsy) in diagnostics, prognosis, and disease monitoring.
Integrate theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory cases and simulations, developing independent judgment and fostering continuous professional development.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of core disciplines: biology, general and organic chemistry, biochemistry, human anatomy and physiology.
Ability to understand the principles of major biomedical laboratory techniques
General knowledge of the scientific method and of main laboratory safety procedures.
Ability to consult and comprehend scientific sources, including those in English, and to use basic IT tools for the management and analysis of biological data.
