Objectives
The course provides basic knowledge on rheumatology, diseases of the musculoskeletal system and the odontostomatological apparatus with regard also to the pediatric patient.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge of the application and indication of different imaging techniques in the study of joints and tissues and organs involved in inflammatory, systemic and non-inflammatory rheumatic diseases.
Knowledge of the anatomical-functional and topographical bases of the oro-maxillofacial district, interpretation of radiological imaging in dentistry and maxillofacial surgery. Knowledge of radiological equipment used in dentistry, their clinical indications, the technical potential and limitations of diagnostic examinations, and issues relating to implementation and radiation protection in dentistry. Introduction to the latest cross-sectional imaging techniques and digital 3D imaging processing programmes.
Knowledge of the basic elements of the main orthopaedic and traumatological pathologies and, in particular,
pre-, intra- and post-operative instrumental diagnostic methods.

Lessons mode
Lectures and interactive lessons will be conducted with the aid of presentations created using
Microsoft Office PowerPoint, as well as videos. Teaching materials will be available for students to download from a dedicated cloud platform with password-protected access for the entire duration of the academic year. The essential open source bibliography and any additional reading requested by students will also be available for consultation on the cloud. The teaching materials provided will form the basis of the examination. In the event of legal restrictions, lessons may be conducted remotely using interactive telematic methods, using the free platforms Microsoft Teams or Zoom Cloud Meeting.
Frequency
Students must attend at least 70% of lessons in order to be eligible to take the examination.
Exam mode
Students will be required to take oral examinations relating to the three subjects covered by the intgrated course.
Example exam questions
The examination is based on image recognition (X-ray, MRI, CT scan), followed by a discussion of the pathology to which the image refers.
