Learning outcomes

Module: PHYSIOLOGY

Module: HISTOLOGY
General objective
To know the morphological and structural organization of the tissues in relation with their function.

Specific objectives
- to know the morphology and structure of human tissues
- to be aware of the relationship between structure and function of the tissues
- to discern and interpret a histological structure
- To apply the contents of the discipline to themes of biomedicine and, prospectively, to the histo-physio-pathology of human diseases.

Programme

Module: PHYSIOLOGY
The nervous system: Properties of neurons. Electrophysiology of neurons. The action potential. The mechanism of synaptic transmission. The somatic reflexes. Clinical notes of the nervous system.
Respiratory: Pulmonary ventilation. Exchange and traporto gas. Clinical notes of respiratory disorders.
Skeletal system: physiology of bone tissue. The concept of bone remodeling. Physiological factors which influence the bone.
Digestive System: The digestive processes. The path mouth-esophagus-stomach-intestine. Chemical digestion and absorption. The bacterial flora.

Module: HISTOLOGY
Elements of Cytology: Structural organization of the cells and tissues
HISTOLOGY
Epithelial tissues: Covering epithelia: general characteristics, organization, classification and description of the different types of epithelia. Characteristics and surface specializations of epithelial cells. Intercellular junctions. Glandular epithelia: exocrine and endocrine glands.
Connective Tissue: cells and extracellular matrix (fibers and amorphous ground substance). Connective Tissue Proper (loose and dense). Adipose tissue.
Supporting Connective Tissues: Cartilage: (hyaline, elastic and fibrocartilage). The perichondrium. Bone: compact bone and cancellous (spongy) bone. The periosteum and endosteum. Histogenesis of the cartilage and of the bone. Intramembranous and endocondral ossification. Bone remodeling. Fracture repair.
Blood. Circulating blood cells. Bone marrow and hematopoiesis. Lymphoid tissue. Concepts on the immune system.
