TRM INTERNSHIP III Single channel

Chair (Coordinator) and Rapporteur: MAURIZIO DE VIVO

Lecturers

Learning outcomes

At the end of the internship activities, the student must be able to independently manage the taking charge of the patient with respect to all the skills required by the core university curriculum

Prerequisites

Having acquired the necessary skills of the internship activities of previous years, technical-practical knowledge-knowledge of radiation protection-basic knowledge of physical principles and equipment.

Programme

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Describe and identify the components of an MRI system.

Describe the indications and contraindications for MRI examinations.

Describe the different MRI application modes (T1, T2, etc.) and correlate them with the resulting images.

Independently manage the diagnostic workflow for an MRI examination, ensuring patient safety, proper use of the equipment (e.g., surface coils), correct patient positioning, and the selection of an appropriate MRI protocol according to the clinical condition.

Describe the characteristics of the paramagnetic contrast agents used, correlating them with their modes of administration and specific clinical applications.

Through critical analysis of MRI images, identify and interpret the anatomical structures displayed, describing the technical and methodological adjustments applied during image acquisition and post-processing to obtain the radiological image.

Nuclear Medicine

Identify supervised and controlled areas; recognize the differences between these areas in terms of exposure limits for staff, and understand and manage the mandatory internal pathways for patients, required for radiation protection purposes.

Analyze and identify the equipment and techniques employed, including:

Single-photon technique: the multi-head gamma camera

Acquisition types: planar static, dynamic, and tomographic (SPECT)

Dose calibrator: structure and operation

Gamma counter: structure, operation, and applications

Analyze the structure of the 99mTc generator, the eluation procedure, and prepare simple radiopharmaceutical doses according to the work schedule.

Perform quality control of radiopharmaceuticals and monitor personal and environmental contamination.

Know and apply acquisition protocols for scintigraphic investigations.

Describe and apply acquisition and processing protocols used in PET/CT.

Understand therapy with unsealed radionuclides.

Bone Mineral Densitometry (BMD)

Understand and describe the technical procedures of bone mineral densitometry examinations.
