Lessons mode
Humanities instruction is structured through lectures, supplemented by thematic seminars where necessary. All lessons are interactive: the instructor prompts students with questions they can answer based on their previous courses. This approach highlights connections between the current course and previous courses, knowledge of which is essential to understanding the content covered. Continuous references to previously learned concepts aim to convey the subject matter not as a collection of isolated concepts aimed solely at passing the exam, but as part of a multidisciplinary study, developing in students an integrated and enduring approach to knowledge.
Frequency
Attendance is mandatory for 66% of the allocated hours. Attendance is verified and recorded on a specific form directly by the instructor.
Exam mode
Teaching assessment methods are characterized by exams scheduled during scheduled sessions. The exam consists of a written test with multiple-choice and/or open-ended questions, with a possible supplementary interview. The objective of the exam is to assess knowledge of the basic concepts covered in the syllabus of each individual course module.
The elements considered for assessment purposes are: subject matter knowledge; language skills; reasoning and logical articulation; and the ability to integrate skills in solving practical cases.
Each student will be evaluated comparatively with their peers in the exam, ensuring fairness and recognizing individual merit in awarding grades.
Example exam questions
An elderly orthopedic patient, hospitalized following a femur fracture, refuses the proposed surgical treatment, citing personal and religious reasons.
Bioethics: Explain how the principle of autonomy and informed consent apply in this case, discussing the role of the orthopedic technician in relation to the code of ethics.
Nursing: Identify the main healthcare risks related to immobilization and propose prevention strategies.
Psychology: Describe the emotional and cognitive factors that can influence the patient's decision and how healthcare communication can be adapted.
History of Medicine: Provide a historical example that shows how the evolution of medical thought has contributed to recognizing the value of patient consent.
