Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will be able to:
describe the fundamental principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, the factors influencing therapeutic response, and the main adverse drug reactions;
demonstrate knowledge of the principal classes of drugs used in clinical practice and emergency care, and understand their application in nursing practice;
recognize the main internal medicine conditions (respiratory, metabolic, hepatic, renal, cardiovascular) and relate them to the patient’s nursing care needs;
plan and implement targeted nursing interventions, collaborating with physicians in therapeutic and diagnostic management;
prevent and manage the most frequent complications in medical settings;
apply specific nursing protocols and procedures (paracentesis, transfusions, pain management, hospital isolation, diagnostic examinations);
educate patients and their families in the management of chronic diseases and the prevention of complications.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and general pathology.
Fundamental principles of general nursing and medical semeiotics.

Acute respiratory failure and principles of oxygen therapy/NIV
Chronic respiratory failure (asthma, COPD)
Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism
Diabetes mellitus and principles of oral and intravenous therapy
Acute and chronic viral hepatitis
Metabolic liver disease (hepatic steatosis)
Liver cirrhosis

Module: PHARMACOLOGY
The course aims to provide students with a solid foundation in general and special pharmacology, with particular focus on drug mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes, factors influencing therapeutic response, and major adverse drug reactions.
Attention will also be devoted to the main classes of drugs most widely used in clinical practice and in emergency settings.
Course Content
General Pharmacology
Principles of pharmacokinetics: absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination of drugs;
Principles of pharmacodynamics: general mechanisms of drug action;
Factors influencing therapeutic efficacy;
Adverse drug reactions.
Special Pharmacology
The most clinically relevant drug classes will be addressed, with specific reference to agents commonly employed in emergency medicine:
Drugs acting on the Autonomic Nervous System;
Drugs acting on the Central Nervous System (with special attention to anxiolytics and benzodiazepines);
Antibiotics;
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs);
Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs;
Antiulcer agents;
Antiemetic agents;
Antihypertensive agents;
Diuretics.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
