Learning outcomes

Students will acquire knowledge of the etiopathogenic, morphological, and functional bases of major diseases, understanding the mechanisms that alter homeostasis and the main inflammatory, degenerative, and neoplastic processes. They will recognize the link between structural changes and clinical signs, understand the role of pathogens, and interpret key laboratory data relevant to nursing practice.

Prerequisites

The student must have acquired the basic notions, a good study methodology and adequate self-assessment skills. Basic knowledge of biology and biochemistry.

Programme

Module: Technical sciences of laboratory medicine
The analysis laboratory: pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases; concept of variability; quality control; reference ranges; predictive value; specificity and sensitivity

Lessons mode

In person lectures.

Frequency

Mandatory.

Exam mode

Learning assessment will take place through a written test with multiple-choice and/or open-ended questions on the topics covered in class for the various modules of the integrated course. To pass the exam it is necessary to achieve a grade of not less than 18/30 in each module.

Example exam questions

What is meant by blood sugar; How is a complete blood count performed; Lipid profile; etc.
