Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes: In order to achieve good clinical skills proficiency in psychiatry, the course aims to provide basic information on principles of global mental health, of psychopathology, and of mental disorders and their epidemiology, clinical features, detection, diagnosis and treatment in the community and in hospital.
At the end of the course the student must: a) know the global and individual impact of mental disorders; b) recognize main signs and symptoms of mental disorders; c) know epidemiology, clinical characteristics and course, DSM-5 diagnostic criteria of mental disorders; d) to recognize common consciousness disorder with their differential diagnosis in medicine e) know the treatment of acute and long-term pharmacological and psychosocial treatment of mental disorders; d) know basic forensic aspects of psychiatry and compulsory treatment of mental disorders.

Programme

Main teaching objectives:
For Psychiatry, students should acquire knowledge on epidemiology, characteristics, impact, diagnostic criteria, and treatment of mental disorders. The course pays special attention to the detection and management of peri-partum mental disorders.
