Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students will be able to integrate key concepts from general psychology, sociology, pedagogy, and philosophy of science into professional healthcare practice. The course provides both a historical and theoretical understanding of these disciplines, but above all emphasizes their application to rehabilitation and patient care.
Students will be able to recognize the cognitive, emotional, and motivational processes that influence human behavior, developing skills essential for building effective therapeutic relationships and fostering patient adherence to treatment. They will also gain awareness of the social, educational, and communicative dynamics that shape interactions between healthcare professionals, patients, families, and colleagues, with particular attention to teamwork within a multidisciplinary setting.
Through the study of research methodology and analytical tools, students will develop critical skills in interpreting scientific data and evaluating theoretical models—competencies that are indispensable for evidence-based clinical practice. The philosophical reflection on science will further support an understanding of the ethical and epistemological implications of healthcare professions.
Finally, the course aims to strengthen communication skills, independent judgment, and lifelong learning, which are fundamental qualities for physiotherapists in managing patient relationships and in effectively engaging with clinical, educational, and research environments.
