Objectives

The teaching of Interdisciplinary Clinical Sciences aims to provide students with an integrated education that combines biological, medical, psychological, and healthcare knowledge, fostering a comprehensive understanding of individuals and of health and disease processes. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the course seeks to develop clinical skills, critical thinking abilities, and teamwork attitudes, encouraging the application of theoretical knowledge to professional practice and to the management of patient needs in complex healthcare settings.

Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide students with interdisciplinary clinical knowledge relevant to patient assessment and management in diagnostic, outpatient and hospital settings related to audiometry. The course integrates basic concepts of anaesthesiology, diseases of the visual system and clinical psychology, with particular attention to patient safety, early recognition of critical conditions, multidisciplinary collaboration and relational aspects of patient care.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, general pathology and general principles of healthcare assistance is required.

Lessons mode

Teaching methods
Lectures, discussion of clinical cases, practical examples related to the audiometric setting and, where feasible, simulations or exercises on emergency scenarios and clinical communication.

Frequency

Attendance is mandatory.

Exam mode

Assessment methods
Learning may be assessed through an oral and/or written examination, aimed at evaluating theoretical knowledge, the ability to apply clinical concepts to simple practical scenarios and understanding of the professional role of audiometrists in different healthcare settings.

Assessment criteria
Assessment will consider knowledge of the topics covered, clarity of presentation, basic clinical reasoning skills, appropriate use of healthcare terminology and the ability to integrate anaesthesiological, ophthalmological and psychological aspects in patient management.

Example exam questions

What are the main differences between general anaesthesia, loco-regional anaesthesia and sedation?
Which vital signs should be monitored during a diagnostic or healthcare procedure in a sedated patient?
What are the main clinical signs that may suggest a severe allergic reaction or anaphylaxis?
